Default What happens if an engine is not properly broken in?

I have an M16 that I bought used and the guy said it had less than a qt. thru it.
I just can't get it to run right.
I've tried the TRX carb and the carb off of my other M16 and it will not idle.

I set all the needles back to factory as well as the idle screw and went from there.
No dice.

Is it possible he screwed it up on the break in?

Anyone?
It will run but only in the high rpm's.
If I lean it too much it overheats.

Default Sounds like he put more than a,

Qt. through it! You can clean up an engine to look like new but, have a worn out piston and sleeve in it! I hope in this case this is not what is going on but, you never know when you buy stuff used!

The only thing you can do is seal it up and do a compression check. You could have an air leak. There have been tons of posts on how seal an RC engine, just do a search. If all else fails and you are at your wits end, take it the hobby shop and have them check the compression. The test only takes a minute to do. You can also get a tester yourself, I think a decent one will go for anywhere from $40-$80. Of course you should check all the basics, fresh fuel, glow plug, clean the air filter, check for a hanging clutch, pinched or restricted fuel line, etc etc........

Yea I've checked all that.
It has tons of compression.

I just wonder if he could have burned it up by not breaking it in properly.????

If it has "tons" of compression you have already answered your quesion, it was probably broken in properly. What do you think "burned up" that would cause it not to idle? Also, you cant really tell what compression and engine has from feel, if there is any doubt, you need a test.
