Default E-MAXX battery problem

I recently purchased 2 x 8.4V 5000mAh tenergy Flat NiMH Battery Pack For RC Car Traxxas, from allbattery on ebay. i charged these batteries as instructions on my new [Fusion 5ive Delta Peak Dual Output NiMh/NiCd Charger] and fitted them to my new emaxx last night everything setup and tested working ok.
I have now just plugged in and turned on esc and both batteries immediately caught fire, and before i could unplug them they both burnt out connections to the single seventh cell on the end of the pack and also burning inside of emaxx chassis.
WHAT can i do. please help me ? what went wrong ? i have never had this before on any battery packs on previous models

Hi, welcome to RCU. It probably needs checked out for polarity and shorts and continuity to be sure what happened. My first guess is that either the + or the - wire on both of the esc connnectors was installed incorrectly (switched)

Man, that is a bummer... Seems like the ESC just dead shorted the packs or something as soon as they were plugged in.

Were the packs pre-wired with connectors, or did you have to install them? What kind of connectors?

Does the + and - line up from the packs to the ESC right?

What kind of E-Maxx? 3906 or 3905? EVX-1 or EVX-2 ESC.

I would contact the ebay store immediately and see what they say. Post some pics of the carnage!

Did someone change esc connectors? If so change the pair of + ones or the pair of - ones. Or you can check it with continuity. There will be continuity between one + and - and this pair cannot be on the same connector.

I was referring to the connectors on the esc rather than the connectors on the batteries. It does sound like it was the esc that hurt the packs and not viseversa. If you don't have a dvm to test it with then here's one more way to test it , but it does require a battery that is fair.

Plug one pack into the connector. If it's ok , then unplug it and plug it into the other connector. If one of them shorts then switch either the blacks OR the reds.
