Someone gave my son this Thunder King and it has missing parts. Over the past year, aside from work, I have tried hobby shops (which there are two in Anchorage) and have searched websites for help. I have concluded it needs a couple gears of some sort. One turns electric start, and infront of it on the same shaft is another missing gear that turns a black gear. This black gear turns a big white gear which turns the back tires. Am I missing Clutchbell? Slipper clutch?
I know alot about full size race cars, but this is a whole different story. And finding the right parts for this truck is impossible so far. Is there any brand that has a lot of compatible parts for MRC Nitro Thunder King? Do all monster trucks have the same size shafts which makes any gear fit as long as it has the right number of teeth? Is there a manual for these I can get my hands on? It is getting quite frustrating. PRO .21r engine. If you need more info just ask. you can also email me at [email protected].
thank you for help

have you tried contacting manufacturer for help? They're probably your best bet. They have an e-mail address for parts, etc. They also have a phone # for rc products. [email protected]. 732-225-6144. Hope this helps.

My advice... Put it on ebay, and sell it as is. Take whatever you get from that, and buy a Savage etc.
If you're bent on fixing it, MRC apparently still does have parts, even though they are no longer producing the kit. They sell direct to customer. Just call the # on their web site.
Keep in mind that nitro RCs break, and require regular maintenance. I think that it would be best to buy something that your local stores have parts for.

Cal-Torque is right - parts for this car are near impossible to find, and since it is a nitro, you will need them. E-bay is your best bet - and since you really don't know what parts it needs, write the description that way. Clean the truck before you take the pictures, make sure you post at least one with the body off the truck. My guess is that, depending on the condition, you can get $120 - $150. Then head to your local hobby shop, and let them help you grow your son's interest in R/C.

If you can get the gears they'll cost way less than buying a new R/C but you need to find out if there is anything else you need before you let it nickel & dime you into scrapping it. Your best bet is to mail MRC & get them to set you up. Good luck & don't be afraid to log in & ask questions here!

Hi there AK, you can buy parts direct from MRC, they sell direct ph# (732) 225-2100 fax# (732) 225-0091. every TK kit comes with a price/parts manual that you should use when ordering parts over the phone (its always important to have part number ready). If you do not have the part/price list I can email it to you.
It sounds like you need (starter gear pack #9632100 $6.60), comes in packs of two with bushings, (Brake gear pack #9632099 $6.60), comes in pack of two. these two gears are concidered wear gears so they do wear over time and will wear faster if not setup correctly. The only other gear for starting the truck is (engine spur gear #9632103 $3.30ea). In front of it is the metal clutch bell.
This truck is very durable and parts to keep it running are cheap. I order parts from MRC all the time (so far with NO problems and I have gottin parts shipments in less than a week) for me and other people in our club www.nitroextreme.com So I have parts too. We are the best place on the net to get info for this kit and we can help you if you need it.
MRC is not assembling any more kits at this time but that does not mean the tuck is junk, the TK kit has been around for over 13 years so there are lots out there so its had a good run. MRC or other enthusiests (like us) may do something with this kit in the future, MRC has also told me they have had other companys interested to buy the product line. Time will tell.

BTW, if you click on this link, at the bottom you will see some pics of the NTK's gear train setup, it should give you an idea of how it should look.
