Default savage engine problems

I recently installed the dual tank mod after suffering engine idle problems. From my point of view the fuel flow is good now. but the engine still pushes air back toward the tank. once the engine goes off, I takes a lot of patience to bring it back to live...once its running the engine is performing good but it suddenly goes out and then there is air in the fuel tube.
I'm a little clueless now! Is this a carburator problem or a general setup problem?
what engine would be worth to upgrade to ? I'm using rotostart right now...
thanks for any tips

picco .26 is a straight drop in and the roto starts works with it.

How many gallons are thru your current engine?

well, its about tank number 5......
might it help to disassemble the carburetor?
I accidently changed the mid needle but made a little mark on the case. but after putting it back to the factory position the slider did not move anymore, I had to turn a little on the mid needle and the slider worked again?!?
