well most use spit and it should burn off in 3 to 5 sec. of coruse this is a ruff tunning method, but proves useful

heres another.. step 1: press hard on the cooling head for like a second and pull it off... after that rub thumb and your finger (that you pressed on the cooling head) together and if it burns then its pry to hot.... then repeat step 1 to either feel dumb, look dumb, or just for kicks and giggles

LOL!!
The real test is this:
Water boils at 212 degrees F at sea level.
So when you put a coupla drops of water on the head, it should boil in about 2-3 seconds. That probably means your head is at around 250.
If its "balls up" and fizzles out its prolly over 300.. DO SOMETHING!
If its just sitting there simmerring.. Your at around 200. CHICKEN! Lean that sucker out some more!

what if it bubbles and shoots in your eye? the other day i had to richen about 1/4 turn half of the time i miss the cooling head and spit all over the body roflmao. im buying a temp gun with the money i get from my paycheck. im sick of guessing

I use a Raytek Raynger ST2, super tool, I used to use the spit test on the XTM 18 and it got difficult when my mouth got dry in the heat.

I have one just not too sure about it because it said that I was running at 280 which was good then i checked it again and it said that the car was running at 332 and I wasnt running the car any harder
