RE: XTM Mammoth???

Well the Mammouth will go faster than any other Monster Truck out of the box. I believe 50+ mph. I have heard it is a very good truck with a great engine.

If you are looking for a box ready truck, I'm gonna have to say the Revo is better...I personally hate the Traxxas engine, but the Mammoth has weak spots too...

I'm happy with my mammoth.
Definately get the aftermarket shock tower brace, or a cage.

I love the .247 that the Mammoth comes with. Plus, the Revo would get its butt handed to it in a fight with the Mammoth:P

I have a Mammoth, I very much like it. I have had few problems with it, there are a couple of up grades to make it better. But overall a very good truck.

RE: XTM Mammoth???

i have a mammoth as well, they are an okay truck, but its not very durable, it doesn't handle on tight tracks worth a dam, its geared way too tall and due to not having a tranny its almost impossible to gear it down as it already has a stupidly large spur gear.....yes it does 50 mph but its accelerated very slow and is not really geared well for off road.... in a drag race with my XTM pro powered savage versus the Mammoth the Savage is much much faster...the Mammoth may have a better top speed but its acceleration is soo poor it never catches the Savage......final word is dont buy a Mammoth, they are not in the same league as the premiere trucks, i own a T-Maxx,, a Savage and a Mammoth,,,the only good thing about the Mammoth is the motor and its a great parking lot racer, it handles well at high speeds, but its definitly not as nice as a XTM powered Savage.....a Revo is 100 times the better truck.....sorry but the mammoth has not impressed me in any way, yes its cheaper but its actually a rip off for what you get....a sucked out truck with a good top end and no bottom end.....though it jumps OK its nothing like a savage for jumping, on a track its size hurts it so does its dog slow acceleration...........

RE: XTM Mammoth???

SuperTIB, if you want more race friendly gearing you should try the 12/17 Clutch bell, really gives the low end a huge increase.

RE: XTM Mammoth???

i gave up on my mammoth, i didn't even know a better gear set was available......but i am selling it....to me it isn't as good as my savage and nowhere near a Revo....i love the 24/7 but i hate the truck.....but thats just my opinion, and i am opinionated.......i am actually going to get into 1/8 scale anyways......i am tired of monsters, though i will buy a Revo because I am totaly impressed with the truck, it is the best MT ever,, and i hate Traxxas, so it hurts me to say it

I have a mammoth and I have had nothing but good luck with it. It has very good low end as well as high end power. I dont know if you may be tuning your truck wrong or what but my mammoth gets up and moves out like crazy. Ihave seen the revo ( with a hopped up .18 engine) though it accelaerates fast it dosent move out as quikly as my mammoth. But there are downsides to the mammoth mainly the shock tower you need to beef those up. The revo also does have a better suspension system.

ITHURTZ 12-14-2004 08:43 AM

RE: XTM Mammoth???

Ya if your mammoth was slow you cant tune for crap.

Aluminum suspension arms
roll cage
shimming the diff and adding longer screws to the diff

like BT said if you want balls out acceleration get the 12/17 clutch bell.

If you get a roll cage like I got, the 5mm shock towers wont be necessary.

supertib its ok for jumping? just ok? maybe ur ramp was a 1" incline?

Every truck has its problems, nothing is perfect

RE: XTM Mammoth???

HAHA thanks, I wanna go brushless and maybe 12/16 cells, but I need to figure out how to make it go lighter first. I CRAVE TOP SPEED :(

RE: XTM Mammoth???

anyways... i got a mammoth. Its a great truck, its goes really fast, the engine still runs perfect after the 4 gallons ive put through it and it beats my friends revo in every race we do. the only complaint i have with it is it not very durable, ive broke many differant parts on it but that can be fixed by just upgrading them to aluminum

ITHURTZ 02-03-2005 06:20 PM

RE: XTM Mammoth???

not durable? only things that really snap are the front lower suspension arms. and thats because well they are in the open

the mammoth was my first RC! needless to say i was not impressed with it! i had nothing but problems with the motor and the tranny. then i bought the LST 30x better truck now i have a hopped up monster GT havent driven it yet but it should be pretty sick!

ITHURTZ 02-09-2005 06:16 PM

RE: XTM Mammoth???

well the comment that it was your first validates that u dont know crap. Anybody with a nitro for there first is gonna break things and say its crap. And how old r u? like 12?

I suppose if you drive a car right off the show room floor and just FLOOR IT all over, you expect the engine to last 50,000 miles? Learn the rules of nitro befor ey ou go bashing a perfectly good truck. Just because YOU SUCK, doesnt mean IT sucks

proxpilot 02-09-2005 07:10 PM

RE: XTM Mammoth???

hey just beacuse it was my first RC doesnt mean any thing, im 25 by the way, the truck would get stuck in second gear all the time, burn out the clutch, couldnt get the motor to hold a tune beacuze it had an air leak couldnt even run a whole tank through it cuz it would get so hot it started to turn the pipe black, this was even after i had the guy @ my LHS silicone it for me. so i put it on the shelf after a month bought an LST and didnt have a problem besides one CVD break thats it. i just dont take something that I spend $400+ and beat the ever living ***** out of it! that would be like taking $400 and burning it, doesnt make much sense now does it. just cuz you cant handle listening to the problems i had doesnt mean you have to insult me a talk to me like im a Fuking child!!!!!!!!!!

Truck being stuck in second gear is a dirt problem. Been there done that. 20min cleaning fixed that.

Air leaks are a biotch, you got fuel lines, back plate etc to check out.

Last i looked, my exhaust pipe was black.

and um ya, isnt a nitro 4x4 supposed to be beat on? I kick the crap outta my mammoth all the time. I even smashed it into a pole @30mph and dented the SHIAAAAOOT outta it, cost me 5$ to fix.

Just dont go bashing a truck you know nothing about, and just because you didnt know how to work it.

RE: XTM Mammoth???

I think every truck has weak points. As for me mammoth was my first truck but i have very nice hopped up nitro car from which I have learned alot. I like the mighty Mammoth, engine starts very easily it has good torque and as per RCCA the top speed is 52 MPH. In a recent race mammoth beat the competition by 22 laps (see the global hobby site).
I have crashed the truck pretty badily few times the only thing that was broken was a small part of the front bumper which was easily glued. The stock motor puts out 2.6HP@28000RPM, if you know the meaning of these number you'll know what I am talking about. The only thing you need is a tower support which is available on Ebay for $34.
I have no regrets. Please dont use profanity, nobody is world class expert here we all are learning from each others experience.
