Thunder Tiger Nitro Bike - Ready for a new engine
What kinds of engines are you guys running in your TTN Bikes? How was the fitting of the new engine? I'm leaning towards an OS .18 or .15.
Any ideas?

I got the O.S. .18 because it is the most reliable and has the most power.
The one to get is the pull start with the side mount exhaust. make sure it is the rotary carburetor. You can use a socket on a drill to start it or you can buy the hpi roto start. You want to get the pull start model motor because the end cap on the motor is set up to accept the roto start . You will have to cut the frame for the roto strt set up but not if you use the socket set up. I tried to actually use the pull start and it will drive you crazy I wouldn’t bother if I where you. The stock pipe bolts right up and the stock clutch bolts right up if you get the sg shaft. If you can not find the sg shaft pick up the Associated sg adapter. To buy the adapter you can order it from Ultimate hobbies ask for Moto tell him what you are doing. Tell him Jason Seamans recommended you. He should be able to hook you up.
There are other options for clutches but you might want to stick with the stock one to start . He is the best guy they have at doing mod's.
You will have to cut some of the heat sinks of the head to clear the servo. The motor mount will need a little cutting on one side. It’s the side where the back plate bolts to the motor. You will want to get sticky tires this thing will be so fast that you will spin the tire right out from under itself. It will do a back flip if you floor it . Make sure you have a good control as to not lose signal and hit someone at full speed that can cause damage.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

The OS.18 is a nice motor for a bike and will have plenty of power, however you might find a minimum of 14 teeth on the clutchbell will make it at least controllable, otherwise you'll just be flipping it everywhere.A softer rear spring and thinner shock oil will help to tame the wheelies also.
If you're putting a bigger engine in, the rear tyre will definitely need upgrading to something like a new soft GRP or PMT one,the standard tyre will wheelspin a lot with the extra power of a bigger engine.
If 1/5 bikes are new to you it'll probably be better to get used to the stock set up first and then decide what you want to do.

RE: Thunder Tiger Nitro Bike - Ready for a new engine
I've had this bike for a little over a week. It took me about a good solid 2 hours of cursing and messing around to get the engine to run well. The .12 PRO engine that comes with this bike is fairly decent. It is not a slouch. I've been practicing my driving and suprisingly have gotten really good at driving and cornering. I've been practicing on a 1/10 road course down at the not so local hobby shop. I guess i'm just looking for some wheelie popping action. You can wheelie with the stock motor, but it takes some finesse, and I can't hold them that long. I'm going to give ultimate a call on monday and see how things go.
Jason, I received your e-mail. I greatly appreciate your time and effort in helping me better understand what is needed with the .18 conversion!! Thanks again!

They seem to be unbeatable as regards value for money, they can be made competitive for racing at very little extra expense, parts are cheap and available. The current one is a small improvement on the first version and Thunder Tiger have a range of affordable hop up after market parts, carbon fibre frame, milled swing arm etc.
I think Thunder Tiger have introduced more people to 1/5 motorbikes than any other manufacturer, and as it gains more popularity I can see other manufacturers trying to get in on the act. There are already people specialising in frames and parts specifically aimed at the people who race.
At the recent "Worlds" in the UK,the NF sponsored works team took first three places and fourth place was a TT bike.

You need a O. S. No question about it . I love it . It will take some mode for sure but it is really fast . Pulls the wheel up whenever you want . You will need good brakes and tires though.
