Default Beginner issues

Hi all,

Ok I need help!

I understand the resoucres are out their to answer this question but i have less than 24 hours to get this car sorted. Its for my son's birthday.

I have a HPI rush evo and the car didn't come with a roto starter. Is there a way I can get it started without one? I have tried using my drill but it dosen't tseem to work.

I have cheaked the glow plug and it is glowing red. I have tried to avoid flooding it but dont no how to tell if it is?

Please help running out of ideas and don't want him to be dissapointed.

Thanks in advance for your support.

I use a drill to start my roto-start nitro engines. Make sure it is on the high speed setting, not the torque setting (if applicable). Also, did you buy the car brand new or used? Brand new fuel?

Install your glow ignitor on the engine, begin to turn the engine over with your drill, hold your finger over the exhaust tip for just a couple seconds to prime the fuel system, should hopefully fire up for you.
The only thing I can think of that you maybe didn't do was to prime the fuel system.
You should be able to visually see fuel flow from the tank to the carburetor.

Hi MrBlargMan,

Thanks for the response.

Ok it's second hand but seller told me they had it running before it was sent.

New fuel, but old glow plug and charger. Glow plug does still seem to work. Drill is 12v battery hand drill with no speed settings, just torque.

Have tried the finger on exshaust trick.

Not hearing any engine noises really jst the noise of the compresion...put...put...put type thing.

Fuel was primed and can see fuel in the carb.

Air filter is grubby but no way to clean yet.

One thing i have notice is fluid coming out the exsahust????

Thanks for any further help

uhhh a used nitro as a 1st. Hope you didn't get burned.
EVERY used nitro I've bought that the seller put runs great, or just had it running that I've bought I've always got an engine that was better suited as a paperweight than an engine due to it usually being completely shot(5-6 engines).

Other thing your drill might be too slow. You kinda need a fast drill to turn these over.

To clean the air filter soak it in nitro, wring it out, and put a few drops of airfilter oil (some people use motor cycle air filter oil seeing its cheaper) in a bag with it and knead it around in the oil.

Fluid coming out of the exhaust is pretty normal that is just the unspent fuel.

You also might want to change the glow plug, or try a fresh battery on the glow plug warmer. Sometimes the battery will die a tiny bit, and won't let the plug reach its proper temp for ignition.
