Buku pipes require maintenance and tuning. They are fun but can be a pain at times. I don't run mine all the time. They do work well, though.

Hey all, I'm new here and new to Nitro (MT2 G3.0's supposed to be shipping in on friday) and it'll be my first taste of nitro. I'm thinking of replacing the flywheel as i hear that can give it a lil extra pep in acceleration. I'll have the roto start so i've been looking at this one: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...LXM760&P=7 .

Is it just a matter of swapping the old flywheel with the new one? Tower says that it requires this specific motor mount? http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...LXN378&P=V ? is that true or will the stock motor mount in my MT2 be good? Finally, it also says that I need the Brass Collett? http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...LXM719&P=M ?

And also, i'm looking at ordering a couple extra glow plugs, will this work? http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...XCB30&P=ML or any other suggestions?I'm planning on using O'donnell 20% racing nitro.

This is an incredible thread. thanks to everyone who's supporting and thanks in advance for your help. I know I"ll be hanging around here a lot.

trust me forget roto start. I bought a roto starter backplates and the whole 9 yards and went back to pullstart within 6 months.
Roto start its easier to damage your engine if it floods (broke a con-rod on my savage) and is an extra thing to have to worry about breaking.
Also on most RC's roto start is a pain (I know on a MT2 its not the easiest) cause the place you shove the wand to start it is right in the way of the rear suspention. Its doable but I don't recommend it

and the starter that needs a flywheel is a bump start. Never tried that seems simple enough though.

Oh, maybe i'll look into converting it into a pull start later on then since it just comes with the roto start out of the box., but as far as the mt2's flywheel, switching to the lightweight flywheel, would i have to deal with the additional motormount that towerhobbies says i need? thanks

No you can change the flywheel using the stock engine mount. The lighter flywheel will give slightly better acceleration because it has less mass to turn.

Astarblla like I said I getting my car running after quite abit of time away an when I ust to use it it was alot of fun all I can say as I'm still a novice aswell is just make so u run it in proper don't get carried away just to rag it from the start. You will really enjoy it buddy an gradually learn more about it as u drive it each time as they are alot of fun an I just waiting for my 100cc tank to turn up then it's go go go on Saturday. I am also thinking of upgrading the engine on my car an all the hop ups to go with that after I have had my fun with it after a good 4 years of not using it but then also worked out it might be better to leave mt2 as it is an get a savage x 4.6 as they look alot of fun wheeling an bashing about.

What do people think? Os.18 or g3.0 engine upgrade from t15 engine an all hop ups to go with eg diffs, cups etc or just buy a savage x?

Are hpi making a new savage soon does anyone no as the x 4.6 has been out a while

The upgrade to the 4.6 was the XL and the XSS 5.9 kit. I don't know what it coming next for an HPI monster truck. Few people would tell you to get a G3 over either of the .18 OS engines, its a matter of if you want to pay the extra. They are better engines in all ways. Few people will also tell you to not get the best diff's possible and if you want to fork out the money for the .18ss diffs then you are best off. The G3 diffs are better than any of the previous versions.

Ok well g3.0 engine it is if I upgrade then but still doesn't answer my question should I upgrade my mt2 engine an diffs or just by another truck like savage x 4.6 ?

Well I'm the proud owner of an HPI RS4 Mt2 with the T15 engine. This dude is fast but want to see how much better and faster the 3.0 is. So far and It is my fault to start with too. ( didn't go over the truck when I got it to make sure all parts where ok.) I want to run and me and my son got some good runtime out of it. Then screws started backing out which amount into lost screws and bushing to the front wheels. Nice line of aluminum parts on ebay. I order new parts. While new parts or being shipped got to go to the closest hobby discovered they had Hpi half price. Got some spare parts. Desided the grass was to hard on the drive train. Disked in a track got that set up. Then the gear comes right out of the clutch bell. Waiting on more parts to come in. Those who say a rolling chais is a good idea Make me think they have been here before lol. Still like the truck though just need a few spare parts so if you need one buy two.

I think upgraden this truck to a 3.0 is out Towerhobbies has the 3.0 on easy pay. Think upgrade would cost close to one of the payments. Think I get the New truck lol

for aluminum parts use thetoyz.com they are same price as the chinese e-bay guys have lower shipping and you get the part in days not weeks (I ordered from both got my parts from thetoyz in 3 days, the chinese ebayers 4 weeks)

and the upgrade for the MT2 a G3.0 engine is $90 on ebay. and the HD final gear set is $25-30 a piece.
to upgrade it it would be about $150 (The older diffs might last for awhile as long as you don't land WOT off jumps) VS $330 for a new one.

Personally I would just upgrade but thats me.

The decision to buy another truck instead is a personal one. Comparing the MT2 to a savage is apples and oranges in my opinion. If you want a savage, get one. Heck, why not get both?

that depends if you get the RTR Savage X the F4.6 that comes in it is simple to tune. If its a Savage X SS with a K4.6 or K5.9 there not so nice to tune. I have a K4.6 in my buggy and its easy as hell to tune, got the K4.6 in my savage and have had some issues with the engine.

personally I like my mt2 with a T.15 in it I have a G3.0 thats been sitting on my shelf fo 8 months (used it 3 times got it cheap used though.)
I will say my MT2 does beat the savage in one way.
Run time
MT2 will run (on a T-15) for around 3-4X longer than a savage on the same amount of nitro

last year I was running traxxas top fuel (not very good IMO) and it cost me $30 a gallon bought 2 gallons(2nd gallon was cause I ran out and my LHS was sold out of everything but traxxas nitro, and wasn't getting a shipment for a week )
2 months ago I bought odonell 20% for $23 and am liking it better. I find less oil is coming out of the exhaust, and when I broke in my jammin X1 very little oil came out during the whole breakin vs when I broke a engine in with the traxxas I stained the cement cause the oil soaked the piece of cardboard I had under it after 1 tank.
