Keith, how many gallons do you have in your engines? I am just curious what kind of lifetime you are getting out of them.
Whatever happened to Eminent?

I have an LRP .18 and an OS .18TZ. Neither has much fuel through them yet. If you did a proper break in then you should get several gallons out of them before they start to lose compression.
Im not sure. Havent seen him on here in ages. Not sure if he lost interest in the forum or if something else happened. Ill try emailing him and see if he answers.

RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
I've been reading up on break ins and some say that the heat cycle method makes a difference of several gallons and the 5-gallon lifetime is a product of the idling break in method. I've read that if the engine is treated well and broken in properly that bearing and conrod bushing wear are more of a problem then losing pinch. Like any information on the web, though, the opinions vary too greatly to get a true number and of course engine lifetime has too many other factors to consider. I've never run an engine more than three gallons before upgrading so i don't know. I am looking for somebody that regularly gets 10 gallons in an engine and hear what their procedures are.
Last I remember of Eminent he was playing with his XL and lost all of its pinch. I think he also had another savage as well.

I know hes done a lot of work to his engines. He P+P'd a few of them.
The con rod does take a beating on any engine. Any dirt that gets in through the air filter will take a toll as well.

RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
Hey Keith, Im a little new to the thread, but I had a couple questions for ya.
First, I wish that my MT2 (with the stock G3.0) had a little bit more get up/acceleration for jumping on dirt tracks. you said that you put the OS .18tz engine in yours. How much did that help the acceleration? Also, as far as a difference in tires, I looked at the proline mashers, and they looked sweet, but im scared they will take away the acceleration as well. What do you think?

Hey Syco, I had a question about glow plugs in my mt2.
Im pretty sure the stock glow plug is cold, but would it increase performance if I were to put in a warm or hot glow plug, and then tune it again?

If you want to keep the 3.0 but get better bottom end just install heavier clutch springs. Ithink the stocks are .90. If you go to 1.0 it will give it more bottom end because the RPMs will be higher before the clutch engages.
The TZ engine is like putting a big block engine in. It has incredible power, almost too much power for the weight of the truck.
Larger, heavier tires will decrease your acceleration. If they are taller you will see a slight increase in top speed though.
Your glow plug choice is going to be based on the % of nitro you are running. Usually the .18s use a hotter plug then the larger engines but if you are running more then 20% nitro you can go with a cooler plug during the warmer weather to help keep the engine temps down a little and still get good performance. Unless you are having real tuning issues Id use a plug with a temp range recommended for the engine and your area.

Im seriously thinking about getting the os.18 tz. How much work is it to get the engine swapped out? Do I need different motor mounts? also, did the OS give your stock differentials problems? Thanks

Yes you need different motor mounts but other then that it drops right in. The TZ power will shred the stock diffs if you are not careful

RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
so i just got my mt2 and ive got a question about the best throttle linkage setup. the way the truck came (used) the throttle linkage isn't set right, im not sure what needs to be adjusted on it, haven't had a ton of time to tinker with it, but does the way it's set up stock have any known issues? if so how should i set it up?
and this these diff issues... how much does it normally cost to rebuild them? should i be looking at finding parts from the 18ss diffs? weight oil and part numbers? if it has been discussed with these specifics (probably has) then which one of the 800 pages is that info on? thanks!

The stock throttle set up is ok. It doesnt give the best braking power though. With a few ofna parts you can set it up better.
Did you get a 3.0 version or the original MT2? The original mt2 diffs are very soft and they shatter easily. The SS diffs are much better. If you do a lot of donuts or 180's then plan on getting the SS diffs.

RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
Anyone Put Sand thrower tires on there MT2 ? Or put them on just the back tires ? Is that safe or will it blow up the diffs if you mix the treads from front to back... was thinking of having a combo to change the handling characteristics is that possible just thinking out loud, anyone got a pick of a MT2 with 4 sand throwers ?

RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
i got my new throttle linkage installed, and i rebuilt my shocks with some 35wt oil. i replaced my fuel tank because the one that was on the truck had a leak which i think was causing the truck to not want to start since i havn't been able to get it to fire. ill play with it later but im having fun already!

RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
i still can't get the motor started, the needles are set to factory, the glow plug and fuel is all brand new, motor has compression. the motor doesn't even want to start up if i put fuel in the carb. i think i might just begin to look for the motor and parts needed to do the os 18 swap. can somebody post the part number for the motor mounts needed? can you use the factory flywheel and clutch assembly? should i get a standard crank or an sg crank?

RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
it really doesn't sound like it's trying to fire at all... and yes, ive replaced the glow plug and check time and time to make sure it was still glowing. would needle settings be much of an issue if it won't fire at all? what else could it be? i was really hoping to not have to put a ton of money into this, and a new engine is more than i payed for the truck lol, yes it'd be a sweet upgrade to it but i'd like to at least attempt a bit more to get this darn thing to fire. Thanks guys

RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
Hi everyone,
I just aqcuired a used MT2 without an engine so I took it in to my LHS and got a CEN .15 put in her.
Just finished the break in which was 4 idle tanks, 1 slow tank, 1 half throttle tank and then almost a flat out tank.
My problem is the brakes dont engage properly and are very 'soft'. The pads look to be in good condition and my LHS
guy said the on ly thing the car needed to run was an engine. Also, when full throttle is engaged, the brake applies.
I'm worried I'll melt the pads or clutch with this current setup. I'm new to Nitro so any help appreciated. Cheers.
