RE: More Back Pressure
I would think that by doing that, you would restrict the flow of the fumes and you would get poorer preformence...but thats what I think
good luck

RE: More Back Pressure
it might work a little. i was thinking of doing something like this hoping to get more pressure to the tank. maybe if you streched a piece of fuel tubing over the end or the stinger so that it restricts it a little. just dont get to much pressure or it wont run.

For some reason when I put one of the reflectors on it lost a lot of power so I took it off.

RE: More Back Pressure
I had an idea somewhat like this one. But instead of crimping the exhaust I put a smaller exhaust deflector on it, thus making the hole smaller. Top end suffers big time, but if you want to be arocket off the line go for it

Guys,
A trick the racers use to get the truck to launch off the line is to stiffen up the clutch springs
Many racers use MIP style clutch shoes and cut 1 or 2 rings to make the spring tighter than stock.
this allows the engine to rev up a little higher RPMs before the clutch engages, thus giving the truck more punch off the line.
Modifing the exhaust isn't the way to go, what ever you add to the bottom you'll loose on the top. and vis-versa
Good luck

I've also noticed that with an exhaust deflector I lose performance and the engine runs a little warmer.

Humm, I was actually just looking at a deflector....debated on getting one. I guess the debate is over. [X(]

remember though by doing this your clutch may slip more, giving you less power to the wheels.

I've found the opposite to be true, the stock clutch set up tend to were out when engaging at the lower RPMs not the higher RPMs. This trick actually causes the clutch to engage faster with less slippage, that's what gives it the "Punch" off the line.
Bushwacker,
No pipe?
What are you using for exhaust?
What kind of truck are we talking about here anyway?

RE: More Back Pressure
Eric, I drilled mine AND cut the spring back a bit, I just didn't want to suggest that yet. I wanted cummins to drill it and if he didn't get the extra RPM he wanted to then try working the spring. Sometimes if you give people the shotgun answer they will do it all at once and realize that it may be overboard for the application. I didn't notice any more "snappiness" but I get the higher RPMs that make more torque right away off the line.

RE: More Back Pressure
To get more bottom end out of the exhaust you can make the distance from the pipe to the header a little longer with a longer rubber tube. If you shorten it, you will increase the top end performance.

RE: More Back Pressure
ya i dont get why they dont come with a tuned pipe, i mean how much more could it cost? that should be the first thing you do, i think you will be suprised with the increase of power. maybe thats why those engines are rated so low in hp.
