Default Please Help! RC10GT

I have a RC10GT RTR Plus.

THings were going great until I decided to upgrade my radio. THe problem is I cant get the wheels to stop turning at idle. I did some searching on the boards and found some possible solutions but no avail. I've reset the mixture screws back to factory settings and then adjusted the idle. Didnt work. I've took the engine off and completely stripped it down. Didn't work. I've taken the clutch off and cleaned the shoes and bell. Didn't work. I just can't figure it out!

Also if it is relevant to the topic at hand, The engine doesn't want to stay running at all. THe only way to stop it from stalling is keeping the glow ignitor on the plug all the time.

I appreciate any response. Thanks.

The idle problem may be fixed by adjusting the trim on your radio. However I am not completley sure. Your glow plug problem may be solved by replacing the glow plug.

its most likely the servo settings. after a radio change things like endpoints, trim, and others will change, most likely the zero setting (middle) of this new radio is different then the old one. take the horns offa your servos. trun on the radio and center all channels (remember to trim em to zero as well) now re-attach the horns so they are in the proper place for each channel. striaght for the steering and just at idle for the throttle. now go ahead and change any endpoints and the what not. (READ YOUR RADIO MANUAL)

change you glow plug....its dead

i found the more expensive plugs you run the better it lasts and also better burn and less carbon buildup. also check to see when your clutch engages along with trimming your servos. It might be also doing this with the steering (pulling or not turning to full radius) when its not adjusted right.

Are plugs supposed to glow throughout the WHOLE coil? the two I've used, straight from the package, do glow pretty brightly but the last loop never glows at all. These are mccoy plugs btw. The radio is set properly as far as I know and even with the throttle linkage off it still turns the wheels. How would I check the clutch?

on the engine side there is a gear (the farthest out one) with a C-clip on the end. pop that off and use your manual to guide you through the rest cause im basically lazy and AE has already printed it up for you.

hehehe.

checked it out this morning! it seems like the clutch is engaged all the time! The bell gets pretty hot which im guessing is from the constant rubbing. im thinking about buying a MIP 4n1 to try and remedy the problem because of the spring retention. think it will work? btw I was thinking about eventually switching to a starter box. so im figuring that ill just change the flywheel while im int here. is there any mechanical reason why a nonps made flywheel wont work with a ps system? thanks. btw im looking at the mip flywheels.

Well the flywheel question is easy to answer... A non-ps will work with a pull start the engine wil just idle a little less consistantly because a ps flywheel is larger and has more rotating mass.
I recommend the MIP clutch, it makes quite a difference.

installed the new flywheel and clutch today. the problem got A LOT better but its still there. I can keep the truck on the ground without moving but when i pick it up the wheels start spinning slowly. hopefully its just the clutch needing some wear in. I also think the tops of the 4n1 clutch shoes are rubbing against the back of the clutch bell. I didn't use a piston locking tool or anything to tighten it up and it looked like the clutch shoes went about a few one third of a MM in front of the flange on the bearing. hmm. i changed the plug to an OS 8 today and im still having some trouble getting a consistent idle! [] o well. back to the grind i guess.!

Thanks for the help dudes. much appreciation.

The stock clutch on the RC10GT doesn't have sppring return clutch shoes. They put enough force on the clutch bell at idle to spin the tires if the truck is lifted off the ground. When it's on the ground there should be enough resistance to hold the truck still. At least that's the way mine works.

Hi guys

I have the same problem with my rc10gt not wanting to run without the ignitor. Looks like i may have to get an new glow plug.

I bought the truck off a mate who never had the time or patience to get it running. Hopefully it`ll be a quick fix, thanks for your help.

if it stalls when you remove ignitor your too rich ,try leaning off a little bit at a time .

You may also want to check your brakes, they may a little out of whack. As for them only running with the ignitor, let the motor warm up a little (30 sec.) then take it off.
