Default Pull Start question

Does anyone know how these actually spin the motor? I took off my pullstart and all it is is a smooth round shaft sticking out of the motor, and on the pull start there is just a bearing. I dont understand how this actually grips the shaft to spin it? There is no flat side or groove in the shaft for the pull start to hold on to. Can anyone explain this to me? thanks

that bearing you are refering to is the one way bearing. if you spin it one way it will spin freely and the other it turns the shaft. im not real sure how it only moves one direction but i imagine that there are slots that the little bushings slid in and when you spin it one way it keeps them from moving.
