melted gear need help

I can't see much from your picture, but if the gear melted around the slipper pegs then you must be running your slipper clutch too loose. What is happening is your slipper is slipping too much and heating up the spur gear, which causes it to melt. Your best bet would be to stick with a plastic spur gear and adjust your slipper clutch correctly, rather than buying a steel spur gear. If you get a steel spur gear, you will transfer the weak point in your drivetrain to the gears in the tranny. So, instead of replacing a stripped spur gear you would be replacing stripped gears in your transmission.
