ok so i just rebuilt my tranny and i bought a new spur gear because the one i had was stripped. the guy at my lhs said that the 87t one would fit on my rc10gt. i have been running either a 66 or a 64 and the 87 seemed interesting, so i took it home and rebuilt the tranny and when i went to put the spur gear on it was way to small. do i have to do something to make it fit or is it just the wrong one.???? part number is 9654.????????
help please. also what size spur gears do they make for these bad boys? and does anyone have any experience with running a metal spur gear?

Hey chief, I think I found your problem.
The guy gave you a gear for the Associated B4. I'll explain my theory here
http://www.kimbrough-products.com/
Go to this webpage, click on gears for associated gas trucks, and the bottom set is what you needed.
If you click on the Associated B4 link, you'll see that 87 tooth gear there.
He gave you the wrong gear.. go back and get the right one... I belive you need a 32 pitch spur gear
Even though the gear may look the same size, the pitch can be off. 32 , 48, and 64 pitch ect... and with the pitch off, your gear mesh won't mesh !

H.D.G. is right, that @$$ gave you the wrong gear....
They aren't interchangeable between Associated models, but here's a bit of info.... in a SERIOUS PINCH a nitro-Evader spur will BOLT RIGHT UP. No changes.
Evader guys, this goes for you too... They don't make many (if any) diff. size spurs for the Evader but the RC10GT Spurs will work!! On the Evader they can't be much bigger than stock or they will rub but you can go smaller (more top-end) with no problems.

Well, he could be a new guy and maybe the guy that runs your local shop and hasn't been trained well. Thats an issue with your shops owner, and its his income being affected by his lack of training for people.
I bought my truck still in kit form from online, and my electronics, and my engine, from different places. I only bought my Starter Box at a shop. I have problems no matter where I go dealing with the shop people. I jsut went to pick up a body for my XXXNT and went to 3 different places, and non had it. The guy at the 3rd shop said we jsut got a shipment in, and if you come back at 6, we should ahve it out.
This guy just couldn't go , look, and get me one. If he sold it to me, he could ahve just left a note for their inventory saying the one that is short is sold. But no, come back in 3 hours... I didn't go back. I also went to this shop and asked about a tuned pipe. The guy said the associated pipe is the best you can get and its the only one you want to use. Its also the only one they have on their shelves too.
Now, for example, I sell Chainsaws at work from Poulan to Homelite to Remington and Echo. If a guy wants a commercial grade one, the closest I can give him is an echo, but the bars are shorter than he wants. I don't lie and say its the best, thats the only one you want and 4 inches of bar shorter won't matter. I tell him go to a place called Rec World in North Las Vegas, and you can find what you are looking for there.. I just lost a sale, but the customer was happy, and they come back in anyway because they know we're not trying to sell them stuff they don't want. Alot of people at hobby shops like the ones mentioned don't have an understadning of the bigger picture and good customer service. I know at work by not ripping people off that you develop a trust with them, they come back and their friends come back.
Sorry for the rant, but you get my point

Thats why I love shopping on the internet. lots of choices, lots of information and no peons.
