Default shock oil

im using some team assosiated 40 wt shock oil and my dad was loking at it the other day and told me it was just 40 wt motor oil so for shock oil you should just buy some 40wt motor oil in big packages youl get more for less.

I wouldn't use motor oil in place of shock oil. Motor oil may react with the plastic or the o-rings. Shock oil is inert silicon (that's why they use it for implants).

Tucker is right, it ain't motor oil. It use to be in the '80s and all your shock parts would get old and brittle. The new stuff is silicon and worth the money. Shock parts stay like new.

I've been racing, building, and repairing rc cars for 18 years and I can assure you that the oil for your rc car shocks isnt motor oil! I also worked in the petrochemical refining industry for 15 of those 18 years. Motor oil is derived from petroleum products and will eat the plastic parts and o-rings that are used in your shocks. The newer oils that are made of silicone are specially blended and are plastic and o-ring safe. Also there are still 40wt, 50wt, and even higher weight motor and transmission and gear oils being produced by Penzoil, Valvoline, Castrol, and other manufacturers.
