Default Push start question

A guy at my local track said he can push start his rcgt10 by rolling it on the ground. Is this possible? I havent tryed it for fear of messing something up besides I have a rip cord on my xxx nt. I think hes full of ****!

He's full of bull. Slipper clutches, one way bearings and engine clutches don't and won't work like that. Just think about how they work like that for a minute. The engine needs to be spinning to cause the clutch to engage, it works by spinning. Your clutch bell can be spun all it wants, but the clutch won't be engaged unless the engine is spinning. This 'guy' is full of bull!

it's possible...
assuming your clutchbell has no real clutch to speak of and is direct drive.

If he's done significant modifications to the clutch system, maybe.

and what would keep somone from doing it?
on an RC sprint car, it would add some sweet realism.
plus, think of all the money you'd spend on not having a starter box

It could happen. When u let off the gas on your rc the motor winds down as the car slows down. It dosent got to idle speed cuz the weight and momentum of the car keep the engine reved up until it finaly slows enough for the clutch to release.

Yes, but the engine has 0 rpm so the clutch isn't even close to being engaged. The only way would be direct drive, but then even at idle it would move.

The thing about it is it will work if you weld the clutch bell to the flywheel, but then you can't idle. Its would be like a go-ped. U can oush start them, but the idle is 2mph

Well if you had a 2 shoe clutch that used a spring that wraps around it to keep it in. Dont use the spring so the clutch shoes flop against the clutch bell. When the clutch bell turns it binds the shoes and turns the engine over. It might only work one way. If the shoes were on the other way it would just slip and not bind.

You would have to modify the clutch shoes to do that.

Why not remove the pull-start; weld a shaft to the one-way bearing and then attach another wheel to that shaft? You could have a 5 wheel-push-start truck.

If you like that idea I'll share another idea that involves a way-cool "rip cord".
