This engine is rated no stronger than the old OS .12 CV. Plus, the spd likes to run really hot. You might as well buy a cvr and go the extra distance.

What I want to know is, what gearing are you guys using on your .12spd's? I have one and am not too happy with the bottom end. (Not enough.) I am running a 15 tooth clutchbell and 66 tooth spur. Do you think a 64 tooth spur will help very much? Just curious. I like the way the engine runs after you get rolling. It just takes off too slow compared to my other engines. Maybe I need a different pipe too?!?
what truck do you have
what engine do you have ?
have you changed the tire size?

Running the .12 spd in one of my Associated GTs. My other engines are AE .15s, and I also have an OS .12 CV. I have tried different tires. Not much difference, except when I put the road rage tires on for running on the street, the truck seems to have more bottom end with those.

yeah but i would much rather burn a spur than burn a gear in my trans
if yiu have a metal spur than you will just break other parts when your truck goes wot and dosent move (like when you hit a tree)

i had the spd in my nitro mt for the sole purpose of bashing. it was damn cheap and i heard it is a good motor for the $$. i just wanted it to replace the all time worst engine known to man (nitro star .15FE). more highend, kinda lacked midrange but had enough lowend. and it lasted me 7 gallons compared to my FE which lasted 1 1/2 gallons. and was much more reliable, and quite easy to tune. i hooked mine up with a t-maxx big tube header and a gt pipe. wow what a difference in lowend. i ran mine with a 11t bell. it was geared mainly for acceleration. took off like an electric ST.
