Hey, I just received my new Golden Horizans head for my Nitro Evader, I have a couple questions:
1) will I need a new gasket or could I use the old one?
2) Do I use the original shims, any thing different than the stock ones that are on the DTX.18 now?
3) am I making this to complicated?, should it just be a pull off and put on ... no worries kind of thing?
Any other tips will be appreciated.
Thanks, Joe

Use a new gasket with the new head. If the old one is in good shape you might get by but why waist the time since you know a new one will be good. the shims are used for compression adjustment the more shims the less compression at tdc. they also aid in timeing the combustion. I dont have enough experance to guide you through but post or search in the engine section about head shims and you will find wether to add shims or take them according to the engine operation.

Being a mechanic for the past 30 plus years I always replace my gaskets no mater where. It is cheap insurance! Once a gasket is compressed it is not going to seal properly.
