Want a new Radio
I am really into rc but never really tooken the time to understand how the crystals thing works. I wanted to know. Can I buy a new radio and just put the old crystals in my old radio into the new one? or is that not how crystals work?

RE: Want a new Radio
Unfortunately it's not that simple, you have to have a radio/receiver set that is designed to work with the crystals/freqs involved.
Most of the RTR radios out there work on the 27Mhz FM freq, some older radios will work on AM, and still others do crazy stuff with digital up in the 72Mhz realm.
So check to see what frequency and if you are FM or AM or FM digital. Then you should be able to find the crystals that you need.
My local track requires everyone to have at least 2 freqs for their radio. So they do make different crystals for your radio, you just need to find out which ones you need.

It's not 70Mhz, it's channel 70. The freq should be on the crystal.
You can get whatever channel you like. Doesn't need to be 70. In fact it's probably better if it isn't so you can use your old radio at the same time (in another car if you happen to get one)

I never buy used stuff. The last time I bought a used rc part it nearly destroyed my car. I bought an engine and the engine was faulty. No thanks, Ill buy a brand new one from Tower Hobbies.

I am sorry if I am repeating myself but is there a crystal in the radio? if so How do I put another crystal in? Do I have to take it apart?

There is a crystal in the receiver and the transmitter. You need a pair of crystals on the same freq. to work. There should be an area on both where you can just pull them out.
