Apples and oranges
I need some help? Ok I know that i'm going to be comparing apples to oranges but still I some owner info. What do you think is better for a back yard basher a Revo, or a Jato? One is a 4x4 monster truck and the is a 4x2 stadium truck. I have allready heard that the Jato bogs down in tall grass. But how bad? My brother in law has a Revo so i know the thing is a tank. The motor is [edit] junk. I have read that the Jato takes it and comes back for more. I'm going to mess with it in a hard packed sand flat. Also in the grass and on the some pavement.

I have a Jato don't waste your time in the grass with the Jato unless its like 2-3 inches at most, still then it sucks. I don't know how the Revo is on the road but if you have a Jato make sure you have street tires when on the road...my stock ones wore out right after i broke my engine in.

Revo will be a better basher, no contest. If you decide to race, it's probably a better racer as well, albeit in a different class.
I hear lots of trash talk about the trx 2.5. My son just got a used t-maxx and i was worried about the 2.5 because of all the bad things i hear. Turns out the engine is easy to tune, and the truck runs like a spooked cat.

Gerwen, All the trash talk isn't just talk. The 2.5 is a good engine...sortof. It runs well enough, and has enough power, but it runs pretty hot to get that power. Be prepared to rebuild.
Also they are kind of a pain to tune to keep running.(from my experience) My buddy has a couple of maxxes, one with the pro 15, and one with the 2.5, and I have a heck of a time to keep it running well enough to even get it to use reverse. My buddy only gets about 1.5 to 2 gallons of fuel thru his before it is toast.
Granted I am not there for all of the running, so I don't know how hot he runs it, but he says it does wheelies shifting into 2nd gear. I am thinking that he runs it to lean, and then it sits in my garage until parts come.
One of the things you NEED to run a 2.5 is a temp gun.
And it is a maintenance nitemare!!! 5...count em, 5 clutches, 2 speed tranny, 8 shocks...Any more consumable parts they could shoehorn into one platform?
Definately not for the noob...but if you put the time in, it is a fun beast.

RE: Apples and oranges
the 4 wd in the revo will give you a lot more flexibility on where you can run it.
in my experience the trx 2.5 is a great mill. I beat the hell out of mine, as a newb, made lots of mistakes, had airleaks that made it run lean and all of the other newb mistakes you can make, and I still got into the 6th gallon before I needed a rebuild.
i rebuilt and ran it for another 5 or so gallons before I finally split the conrod when allowing it to overrev because of rocket boosters i added to the truck.
The TRX 2.5 that came with my maxx was absolutely top notch. I couldn't possibly be happier with it. Most of the problems I had with my trx 2.5 were caused by the fuel tank not the engine.

RE: Apples and oranges
I do keep an eye on temps, so i'm not too worried about being too lean. I must have gotten one of the good ones. With a little lsn tweaking it launches like a rocket and will idle quite a while. We'll see what the future brings.
