track vs. bashing... wow
for about a year now, i raced in parking lots, wide streets, even the spot on the beach where the city built a huge paved oval. i thought i could drive...
over the weekend, i went to this guys house who built a nice little track in his yard, dirt, with some mounds, etc.. i drove like i was drunk. what a difference in having to manage these trucks through an actual course. i hit the wall on the straightaway so many times, i stripped my steering servo.
alot of fun, but i have a new found respect for those guys that drive these tracks and make it look easy. even the guy who's house it was, was flying through it... i guess it takes alot of practice to master a track.
if i ever went to real track, i'd come in dead last i think. at first, atleast.

Exactly, with dirt tracks you dont need much power because you will never get any traction at all. Also, it seems like u get alot bettter lap times if u just take it slow and manage corners ect. The pors make it look easy[8D]

I just found a track not to far away that is open daily to practice and hope to find out what it is like to run on a track for the first time it the 5 years I have been in this hobby.
I have run my Mini-Z’s on my RCP track in my house but never off road out side.

Tracks are the greatest, I hope to race my Jato and Revo extensively this spring. Track driving requires skill, and I'm sorry but some people are just TERRIBLE at tracks.

There is only 1 bad thing about the track... You'll completely forget about bashing around.

Jatoweasel ... I used to live in L.I. a few years ago. There are so many hobby shops but almost no tracks. South shore hobby has a really nice indoor carpet track and a small dirt track in the back, That is in Coram and the only dirt track I know of is an in-door dirt track in Farmingdale. Ask around for the name cuz I don't know it.

Yes I noticed a big difference too but know I to pretty good on a track considering I have only driven on it for a year and my friedns have been there driven since it has been changed like 5 years ago and still drive on it today. I am a little off the pace but for the most part if the screw up I am there to take they lead then in about a lap or so they are back in the lead[:@]

The difference is, when you're in a field or a parking lot, you're reacting to what the truck does as a baseline to where you're going next. A track changes that. You have to anticipate what your truck will do, instead of reacting to it.
Slow is Fast! The fastest way around the track is to not need to be marshalled. Go slow and get in a groove, then start to push up your speed in the easier sections, then in the more challenging sections. Find your limits and stay in them. Also, if you're more concerned with fun than winning at all costs, go for the big jump once in a while even if you think you can't make it.
