Default Need help with storage procedure

I am in the military and soon Iam going to be deployed for almost a year, that means that my truck is going to be sitting on the shelf colecting dust for a very long time. What extra precausion should I take with my truck. I am thinking in putting a plug or something to cover the exaust to prevent moisture to enter. I am trying protect my truck from rust. What should I do... Please help...

Well I didn't do any precautions with my truck when I didn't touch it for 4 years
Granted I don't know what tolls that did to it but....
Mine didn't rust so I'm going to guess that's not a problem unless you live close to the ocean, especially on the east coast where rust is a big problem
I know people tend to use the after-run oil before they put the car away and just from experience with real sized cars most people try to seal up the things that shouldn't have moisture in them so it sounds like you're on the right track, maybe even plug the carb?

That's about all I know, hopefully someone with some better experience than just throwing their car in the closet will have some good answers.

remove plug and air cleaner and apply liberal amount of after-run oil and rotate the engine to mix it around properly, reinstall plug and air cleaner or tape off top of carb

install a vaccum cap over stinger outlet to prevent dirt and creatures from entering

remove all batteries from car and receiver if they are not rechargables

i also like to sit my cars on something so that the tires and suspension hang freely to prevent the tires and shocks from flat spotting

GOOD LUCK OUT THERE AND BE SAFE.............

All good advice. I would add pulling even rechargeable out. Also give it a good thorough cleaning, tear it down and clean it if you care to do that much work. Oiling your bearings might also be a good idea.

Can you use after run oil on your bearings?

Yes but don't try it on rubber sealed bearings, because they don't need oiling and the after run can perish the seals.
