This is my first post on here and I'm just looking for some opinions on a new truck to buy. I am by no means a noob to R/C. I currently have a Savage 25, an xtm x-terminator, an electric stampede and a tlt. I'm in the market for another nitro truck and I'm thinking about a stadium truck since I already have a 1/8th buggy and a monster truck. It will only be used for bashing so I am thinking about the GS Racing Shadow ST1 or the Traxxas Jato. I am leaning toward the shadow because its cheaper (or at least where I am looking I can get it cheaper) seems like it could have a better radio (it's FM), it has a larger sized engine and I won't need new tires right away.
On the other hand the jato is faster and has a two speed. It is also easier to work on and lighter because of the 2wd. I actually like the fact that it is 2wd because my other two nitros are 4wd so it would be a change.
Basically I'm just looking for a durable basher that won't break every time I take it out. The savage and x-terminator have not broken yet (well just minor things nothing real expensive) and I'm hoping to get an st that will be at least close to as durable.
So give me your opinions about both of them and let me know which one you think I should get. Thanks in advance.

id say get a rustler (nitro) coz it is tougher than anything i have seen. and it is very fast. almost as quick as a jato. it has more hopups and is easily the cheaper option.

I have a Jato and the only thing I have broke/bent is a camber link. It was my fault, to many immovable objects. I have heard of ppl braking Rear shock tower's but they are link 6 buck's. It is fast a crap and if you have not driven very many 2wd it will teach you to really drive. I won't get rid of mine. The hop up's are slowly coming out. Here are a couple of sites to look at for so of the parts that are now ava.

Don't get a Rustler whatever you do. No one competitively races a Rustler at any tracks I've raced at. It is either Losi, Associated and sometimes a Kyosho or two, but that's about it. Even the Evader is frowned upon at races. The only way I've supported Traxxas is with my 3 EMaxx trucks, and two of them are upgraded way beyond Traxxas quality. The Jato looks cool, but again, I've never seen one racing in the Nitro ST class. You'd be better off to get an RC10GT or XXX NT, as they are much better quality trucks.
Out of your chocies, the Jato is more of a race profile truck, not so much a basher. I don't know much about the Shadow, but 4WD's are hella fun when it comes to bashing. I used to have an HPI RS4 MT and that thing wouldn't quit. [>:] If you want 2WD and nitro, get the RC10GT plus or the XXX NT, just your preference of Losi or Associated.
Good luck with your search, but just remember to have fun with whatever truck you decide on!

Idont believe that you can ether have high torch and low speed, or high speed, and low torch. My jato is still freaking fast as hell and I have geared it for torch. Has several upgrades now, but I have now both speed and torch. It will almost flip completely on its back at 1/3 throttle now on pavement or blacktop (which I have to do something about it, ruining body and rear shock tower lol) and will leave rusty's in the dust in a drag race. I know it is still going at least around 50 mph. It flys. Point is, jato can have both torch and speed!

It's torque, not torch... and with a higher gearing, you lose low end, and gain high end, , visa versa. And with your "50's" mph area, I dont think you will out run a Rusty... Well, you'll out run mine, as it's not working right now.

I always spell it that way, dont know why. But I know about the gearing deal about how youl lose ether top speed or TORQUE, but anotherusername was acting like you just because the jato is fast that it doesnt have a lot of torque, but you can gear the jato to have torque and still have good speed. (not flaming anyone by any means, just stating my opinion)

Erm.. it's not really torque, I take that back. It's acceleration, etc. It takes off rather slowly, but has a high top speed. Most RCs with a fairly high top speed have slow take offs.

Well being a light-weight stadium truck, the Jato can have great speed and still great acceleration. So you are both right.
Edit: Woops sorry for bringing this back, lol I was searching for the Shadow info and got into this thread :P.

tighten you'r slipper clutch, the jato is a better truck, it has the best shocks on the market, eaven thoe some one said it has a slow take off, it still exelorates faster to 30mph than any other truck and keeps going. it is technalogicaly more advansed and is easyer to start, and much more easyer to matenence and it althoe needs new tires and a few other things, it is still a better deal. and althoe they are both great trucks, the jato is in its own class, nothing compeats with it , it is the best st, it may not be the most derable thoe. the most derable truck out there in this class is probubly the hpi mt 2
