Default Hpi MT2 18ss New Engine? Help!!

Hey guys, I'm looking into buying a new engine for my Hpi MT2 18ss..... I'm looking for something much better overall than the stock .18ss engine..

Im looking at the OS 18 CV-R and OS 18 CV-RX, whats the difference? Would I see a substantial performance increase over the hpi 18ss engine? Or should I just convert my car to a big block with a .28 STS or something...? Help me out please!!!

i have the .18 cv-rxin my mt 2. very good engine, and very easy to tune as well as reliable. i think the cv-rx has a little more hp than the cv-r though, not too sure, i'll check on towerhobbies.com and see.

the x represents the recoil starter. without the x means that its just the motor without the recoil starter.

Recoil Starter? or is that another name for the Pull start?

Yes - It is worth the upgrade.

I have no issues with mine. Best $100 spent.

technically the 18ss has more power than the OS .18

the 18ss has 1.5 hp while the os .18 has 1.35

so i guess its up to you

hmm, i have the os motor and the 18ss. the 18ss looks alot smaller when i put it up against the os18. the os18 is a nice motor from what i read, but it didn't do me good. it actually cut up some of my fingers and hands. not actually cutting it off just like scratches and all that.

They may say they have the same horsepower, but OS has more. Here's the proof. I posted this Feb 2004 and it is from an RCCA article:

The magazine RC Action did a comparison of all the .18's out there and the OS was the best. I posted the results here in this site somewhere:

Found it:

Just installed my CV-RX in mine. I can't wait to break it in. My .18SS was getting tired and I just read the latest in Radio Control Car Action magazine. They tested the following engines in a Traxxas Maxx using Trinity 20% Racing fuel:

Epic .18 Big Bore:
Top speed - 39.15 mph
Time to reach top speed - 6.94 sec
Time at 132 ft - 3.85 sec
Speed at 132 ft - 33.42 mph

Fantom FR .18:
Top speed - 36.41 mph
Time to reach top speed - 6.62 sec
Time at 132 ft - 3.89 sec
Speed at 132 ft - 33.49 mph

Hot Products .18 Outlaw:
Top speed - 36.65 mph
Time to reach top speed - 7.49 sec
Time at 132 ft - 3.96 sec
Speed at 132 ft - 32.21 mph

HPI Nitro Star .18SS:
Top speed - 36.78 mph
Time to reach top speed - 6.85 sec
Time at 132 ft - 3.91 sec
Speed at 132 ft - 32.42 mph

OS Engines .18:
Top speed - 40.40 mph
Time to reach top speed - 6.27 sec
Time at 132 ft - 3.42 sec
Speed at 132 ft - 38.15 mph

Peak Racing Diablo:
Top speed - 37.05 mph
Time to reach top speed - 7.87 sec
Time at 132 ft - 4.02 sec
Speed at 132 ft - 31.97 mph

Sirio TX-18:
Top speed - 37.31 mph
Time to reach top speed - 6.50 sec
Time at 132 ft - 3.89 sec
Speed at 132 ft - 33.86 mph

Team Orion Wasp .18:
Top speed - 30.18 mph
Time to reach top speed - 6.40 sec
Time at 132 ft - 4.69 sec
Speed at 132 ft - 27.48 mph

XTM .18:
Top speed - 30.56 mph
Time to reach top speed - 6.85 sec
Time at 132 ft - 4.20 sec
Speed at 132 ft - 29.71 mph

From these numbers it is easy to see that the OS was the only enigine to hit 40 mph and was able to get to 132 ft the fastest a full 1/2 second quicker than the next engine. This thing should have incedible grunt.

Bottom Line - Get the OS.
