Default Fuel Filter

Do you run a fuel filter in your nitro truck ? If so is one better than the next and if you don't
why not ?

most modern tanks especially the good racing aftermarket ones have a built in filter but haveing a second is like wearing suspenders and a belt ! just being safe with your costly motor. yeah i use a fuel filter with all my trucks, save money by using the one for air craft it has the same cleaning effect and is usually 50% or more less expensive

What if this is my first Nitro truck and I'm trying to find out all the correct things to do FIRST.

SO does that make me not very intelligent ?

no, it's good to ask questions. just some people dont understand that your new. so just ignore the bad parts. but a fuel filter is like having insurance on a car, or better yet wearing a helmet when riding a croch rocket. fuel filters and air filters should be cleaned regularly, i clean my fuel filter every gallon and air filter ever half gallon

my bad, I just will never run without a fuel filter ever again. Did it for a while and went threw two piston's and sleeves. Lots of **** got in the fuel and the fuel filter has saved many motors of mine and others. I should have taken a picture of the filter on my buddies fuel filter one time. He neglected it for a while and the entire filter was covered in gunk. He decided to go clean the fuel filter because his car was running poorly. Once he cleaned it, His truck ran the best I have ever scene it. Had he not had a fuel filter, my bet is that motor would've been toast.

jeez! you clean the air filter only once every half gallon?! thats not close to enough in my opinion. your restricting air flow to your engine.

I believe he is implying that you don't clean it often enough. I generally clean my airfilter every 5-6 tanks of fuel.

dang, I try and swap my filter about every 2 mains and a new one for the a mains. I find filters are cheaper than engines. Always have run with in line fuel filter, their also cheaper than a new engine. Its good to ask question, could save time and money.

You must only run on pavement! I clean my air filter after each day of running. I keep spares in my field box oiled, ready to go and if I am running in dusty conditions I will change it twice a day. Like you said cheap insurance.

Back to the main question about the fuel filter. RUN YOUR TRUCK WITH ONE! The reason is because I hadn't been running one in my truck and I went to prime the engine one day. The fuel came up, but went down right away. I took it into the hobby shop and they cleared out the carb and it was fine. (sprayed it with nitro cleaner) The point is, by not running a fuel filter, you can get stuff clogged in the carb. NOw, I'm always gonna run a fuel filter. Hope this helps and good luck!

So far I have never found anything in my fuel filter but still recommend to run one as a safety precaution. I all ways blow off around my fuel tank with an air compressor before refueling.

Just a little tidbit on air filters. I remember when i thought Motorsaver filters were great and all, that is until I switched to a backup filter and realized how much MORE air is filtered with that one. I could drive the motorsaver forever and almost go a few days w/o cleaning... that thing failed to filter well! Scarred up my sleeve too after evaluating pending damage.

Exactly, if you find yourself never cleaning your filter, be worried, it is when you see dirt build up when you should be happy. Motorsaver just provides max airflow without filtering too much.
