Hi,
I am looking to replace my TRX 2.5 engine for my Rustler. Just wondering what kind of engines other people are running and how they like it, positives and negatives. I have been hearing a lot about the TRX 3.3 and the OS .18. Thanks guys.

If you want a good quality engine go O.S.. I dont have a rustler but i might be buying one. If i do i am going to try to drop a OS .21 VG in it. Ill tell you about it if i do get it.

Fantom's last series of engines were garbage... built by Toki in Japan. Hence why they stopped selling engines the past couple of years.
Fantom has new engines coming out with CRF technology though.

it isnt a warranty at all. its just a cleverly named engine purchase program where you send in your old engine, then pay for a new engine. pretty pointless. deffinately dont get a traxxas engine. i would put an os 18 in it, if you could upgrade the freakin' transmission

well, if you send in your burnt up traxxas motor, you get another traxxas motor for a cheaper price. but os engines would be better.

I picked up a new TRX 2.5 R and Revo pipe off of ebay real cheap (~$70 with engine, pipe, header [sold for $10 on ebay], coupler, shipping). I slapped the 2.5R and the Revo pipe onto my rusty (had to make a new mounting wire for the pipe) and it is incredible. A lot of people ***** about the trx engines being hard to tune and unreliable. I personally have found the opposite to be true. All of the problems I've had with TRX engines have been related to issues like the poor fuel tank on the t-maxx and fuel system obstructions. When all else is well, a properly tuned TRX 2.5R is one of the smoothest running most reliable engines you can put on a rusty without overpowering it too much. Actually the trx 2.5r is way too much power for a rusty unless you are nice and easy on the throttle, so I would be very reluctant to go to anything more powerful. If I were looking to change from a trx 2.5 or 2.5 R to anything else, I would look into the .12 racing engines.
