Default Slipping Ball Differential

I have a vintage Kyosho Outlaw Rampage with a ball differential that keeps slipping. I've dissembled, cleaned and greased it but it still slips. The differential consists of a center gear with 12 recessed ball bearings. This gear is sandwiched between two other gears which drive the rear wheels. the outer gears have a metal face that rub against the ball bearings. the face is smooth with no grooves. No matter how tight i tighten the differential, it still slips and by slips i mean it will barely turn the rear wheels and stop at the first sign of resistance... Any thoughts?

The bearings themselves are most likely worn too far down to drive the rear. They are replacable. I can't remember what size they are off hand. It may depend on what diff you have. If it is the regular Outlaw Rampage (silver chassis/ black gearcase), and not the Pro (blue chassis/ white gearcase), your diff is an option part. It is either the Kyosho or Thorp (MIP) Dirt Burners brand. When I get home today, I'll take a look at the parts lists and see what I can find.

I don't have a Pro manual.[&o] Well, hopefully I can find the parts list I printed out before K did the big change. It's probably going to be an SST*** part number.

Gotta love vintage nitro, surely it has a modern engine though?

it looks like the ball bearings are 3/32 so perhaps i can find generic replacements on the internet. ive already bought one truck carcass but its differential was toast. ive got one more comming and ill see how it is. i may just box it, ebay it and move on to a revo.

You need SST-11. The Kyosho site doesn't have it listed. In fact, most of the SST gearbox parts are gone. Keep your eye on eBay. They may very well be 3/32. Try the ones from Associated.

Your forum handle does you justice. If things dont pan out with repacement ball bearings or the other old kyosho thats still in the mail then we maybe talking.
