Default Is this a good engine for my ST?

Hi I am looking for a lot more power for my X-Cellerator. I was wondering if this is a good engine [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXHLV9&P=0]OS[/link]. Or should I save 30 bucks and get a CVRX? Looks impressive at claimed 1.8hp. Tell me what you think. Thanks.

XTMer, ya that is a good motor. But something that people overlook is the numbers inside the motor. i could care less about the claimed hp, someone else could have 1.9 or 2 hp, but the internal numbers are what make a good motor, if your into finding a good motor this is what to look for and understanding what these numbers mean will help you in your motor selection. Bore, Stroke, Displacement, Rod ratio and so on. these are what seperate one motor to another and they are all different unless it is a motor that is carried by two names of manufactures, Novarossi/ Rex, are the same motor just badged different. But the OS 18 is a real powerhouse, will that truck hold a .21?

Yes that is a very fast motor. Its got a turbo head on it which increases the RPM and horsepower by a bunch. But the thing is that the glow plugs cost about 8-10 bux each. I just got a OS .18 CV-R which is a really nice motor. The one your looking at is the more powerful version of it. I would highly recommend either motor for that car. Are u running an X-Cellerator?? I am thats what Im gonna put my engine in, and if you are you need a side exhaust manifold for it. The Team Associated one for the RC10GT will work.

The TZ is a nice engine but I personally feel that it is over kill by a ton ofr a mt. I have a .18CVR in my st and the tires just spin and wear out faster. But when you have a nice set of new tire's the truck does wheelies like no other.

One thing that I noticed from going from a lesser powered engine to the .18cvr is the run times go down. Some dont like this but thats just part of it, you get more power but less run time. But if you want that enigne go ahead and get it, O.S makes great engine's that are very reliable and are easy to tune. If you have any questions about the .18CVR just pm me and I will be glad to answer any and all questions you have about the CVR.

Thanks for ll the replies. I run an X-Cellerator. I know not to look at the ratings and they are BS, but it probably does put out good power. This is a rear exhaust engine so I dont think I need a new header. Higher priced glow plugs doesn't really matter, as long as it is tuned right they last pretty long. I wanted the tz because it isn't that much more(it is my birthday),and put out some more power. I was also considering the CV-R, do you think it is close enough to the tz and just save some $. The x-cellerator is geared REALLY high, it has stock gearing and mashers and does around 55-56, taking too long for me to get there. So I need a lot of power.

glad to see they pulled the prices down on the .18's. if you can get it to fit, by all means, opt for it. It'll be overkill though.

What do you mean get it to fit? It is the same size as other engines of this size right? Like the CV-R?

I just think it will be overkill, I mean my xxx-nt goes pretty good with just the .18cvr on it I couldnt imagine the TZ on there. But the price is very tempting and if you get it you will have one heck of a engine. Personally I just think it would be overkill but thats my opinion and maybe thats what you want. All I can tell you is I geared my XXX-NT as high as I could and it still does wheelies all day long. But if thats what you want then by all means get it and have fun.

I want a lot of power, not totally overkill, but wheelie poppin is a must. I thing I am going to try to port my engine. It is the stock XTM .18 engine and I want more power out of it. And if I do decide I even want a new engine, because I have one that works perfectly fine, I would have another for more power or if I screw up
