OK, I have had a fun day. My ez start motor ( part #4578 ) [link]http://traxxas.com/products/nitro/nsport/blueprints/060213_N_Sport_tran.pdf[/link] just started smoking whenever I took the ez start wand to it and pressed the button. The battery is full charged and I can't figure it out. I would call traxxas and see what they have to say about it, but they are closed for the night and so I decided I would post and see what you guys had to say. Any suggestions (with the exception of Traxxas bashing, I like traxxas and there is nothing you can say to convince me otherwise) are more than welcome. Thanks guys

Sounds like something is in a bind. Can you spin the motor over by hand, ie the flywheel? Just elimate the possibility that the motor is locked up. Second pull the EZ start motor off and try it and see if the motor spins over. If it does, then it sounds like a gear may be trashed inside the EZ start assembly.
In that case... ditch the EZ start and get a pull start. I hated mine on my rustler. Darn one way bearing would die every other day and the battery never had enough juice to heat the plug enough and spin the motor, IMO.

I had the same thing happen recently, actually more then once. One time was caused by the battery not being charged enough. I would put the battery on the charger then immediately try it, but didnt realize my battery had gone bad. The next time it ended up being gears in the EZ start binding. Took it apart, regreased and reassembled and everything worked fine. If you do need to replace some gears you can get a replacement kit with all the gears for around $9.

Thepenguinsays Sorry I had to run last night before I could answer. Some times if the glow plug doesn't get enough fire or goes bad the engine will flood and cause what they call a hydrolic problem that almost freezes the engine until some one removes the fuel from the piston chamber or it dries out. Best way to check for the problem is remove the glow plug and see if the engine turns over then. It does not take much to burn out a motor. that is one of the biggest draw backs of the system. Thats why almost everyone that is deap off into RC cars etc, use a bump box rather than even a pull start. Myself I like the roto start, thats a lazy mans starter..........lol
good luck with your problem and Oh if after you pull the glow plug it doesn't turn over but the motor will spin, don't mess with it just replace the whole starter assembly. You won't need the hand unit. And make sure the clip that holds the wire onto the glow plug is good and tight

Ok the motor will not turn over, glow plug in or out. The ezstart motor will not work with a fully charged battery even when I take it out of the rest of the gears. Oh well, I am getting rid of the ez start system and putting in a pull start and using a glow ignitor. I am gonna sell the rest of the system, the 7.2v battery, a dynamite peak 2 charger, ez start wand and all that mess, if anyone wants all of it I will take 75 plus shipping if anyone wants it (everything is less than a week old and the charger was 50 alone) Just let me know in a pm or whatever. Thanks for all of your advice.

I was initially planning to just stay with the ez start and just buy another motor. Then I got people on the two forums that I am on tell me that this has happened to them and they have replaced the motor 3 or 4 times with the same result. I am just gonna go the old fashioned way and yank on a chord.

cords suck. Ive had my jato for almost a year, run it all the time. When I burned my 2.5 and put in 3.3, I tried the cord, and it suked hard!! I put the ez back on, no problems. I just blow out the ezmotor with compressor air, and grease the gears with heavy bearing grease in the ez system. I got rid of the blue wire, and use a glow stick. wand battery last WAY longer. Yuo prolly got something stuck in that eletric motor, and since you've kept trying to use it, you burned it. Ide like to get a box, but there kinda pricey. Ill wait till i have ez start probs like you guys.
