So I'm looking for a new racing engine to replace the stock one in my GT2. I was looking into http://osengines.com/engines/osmg1986.html with pull start. I don't want to spend a whole lot of money, but still want to get good performance. Is this a wise choice?

If you want to race you don't want a pull start. If you want to fool around with a pretty good engine then do it, its a good mill[&o]

What engine should I look for. Also, even if it has pull start, I can still start it with a starter box right?

You can still start it with a box. If you have a box look into a engine thats not a pull start. The pull start robs hp from the engine. Look into the OS tz or RB v12 engine, both are great race engines and will push your gt2 on the track very well.

OSMG1986 is a great mill

OSMG1989 is the same thing with less total output[

Ok, I think I have finally set myself on [link=http://www.dynamiterc.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=DYNP5202]this[/link] engine, with the associated smoothy pipe. I know there are probably better engines by a slim margin, but keep it mind I am only 15 and don't have a job.

Wish I was 15 and didn't have a job
enjoy it while you can. If your just racing at your local track and you need to save the money you don't have then go with the OS18 CVR perfect for what your describing[:-]

Ok, after looking for some more engines, I also found [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXRUN7&P=Z]this[/link] one. So I've narrowed it down to that one, or the Dynamite platinum. [link=http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=DYNP5202] Dynamite[/link]
I know the higher quality OS engines perform well, and I've heard good things from the Dynamite as well. What's your pick on engine? I will most likely be running a smoothy pipe on it. Also, what header should I use? Mine is slightly bent due to a wreck.
thanks

Not crazy about ABL sleeve and will stay with ABC!!!!!!!!!! OS is the only one using ABL and only on there low end engines. Wonder why no one else use it? Is it really better or just a cheaper to produce? [X(]

The original Gt uses a short or cut style threaded crank, while the GT2 was designed for a pilot shaft (SG) style crank. A threaded crank can be used if you buy the Associated clutch nut P/N-2312. Really any .12 to .15 size engine will work.

Aluminum Brass and Layered Nickel. Remember when all low end engines not only OS use ABN and was not durable? They claim ABL is better but wonder if it really is or just the fact cheaper to produce as all there high end engines still use ABC!
I know the VG series is ABL and have talked to many that have had problems. If any one gets one keep us posted.

any rear exhaust .12 engine will work with any rear exhaust .12 header. try looking on ebay for a Mugen MT12. sold as a mugen motor, but made by novarossi.

I race with the Dynamite Platinum .12 every week. From personal experience, I have raced both the Dynamite Platinum, the O.S. .12 TG, the O.S. .12 TZ, O.S. .15 CV, and the O.S. .15 CVR. The Dynamite Patinum has more power than the TG. The TZ on the other hand, has way too much for two wheel drive. The Dynamite is what I would go with.

Ok, thanks. I'm pretty set on the dynamite now.
Edit: Also, are you running blue thunder?
