Default RE: HPI mt or mt2??

A lot! I have a HPI MT 1 ¾. It stared life as a MT Racer and I have up graded it to MT 2 SS specifications other then the chassis, upper deck and radio tray. I am running and OS 18 TZ in it. Here is an article that use to be on HPI web site about up dating a MT1 to a MT 2. Will give you an idea of the differences. HPI said you cannot put a 100cc tank in a MT but I did.

Suspension
One of the biggest advantages the Nitro MT 2 has over the original Nitro MT is in the suspension. Longer front arms plus longer front and rear shocks provide a plush, smooth ride that allow the Nitro MT 2 to roll over just about anything. Upgrading the front end is easy ? you just need a few parts:

Front Suspension
85074 Suspension Arm Set (2 required)
85076 Front Upright Set
A280 Flange Shaft Set (use A284 3x30mm flange shafts)
Z242 E-Clips 2mm

Each #85074 Suspension Arm Set includes one front and one rear suspension arm, so you can upgrade your rear suspension arms at the same time. While the measurements of the rear arms are the same, they are much tougher and more durable.

To really upgrade the front suspension, you will need the longer front shocks of the Nitro MT 2. You can just move your Nitro MT?s rear shocks to the front, since the front Nitro MT 2 shocks are the same length as the rear Nitro MT shocks. This of course would require you to get a new pair of rear shocks:

Rear Shocks
86168 Flange Shaft 3x33mm
Z224 Washer M3x8x0.5
A716 Sport Shock Set (77-117mm)

The new Nitro MT 2 shocks have an improved design, with a bottom cap that threads on and will not ?pop off? when landing huge jumps. You can also get the front Nitro MT 2 shocks with the threaded bottom cap:

Front Shocks
A715 Sport Shock Set (70-103mm)

Front Bumper
While you?re upgrading the front end and it?s all taken apart, you can go ahead and upgrade the front bumper to the new brush guard style bumper. This is one of the most prominent outward features of the Nitro MT 2 and does help protect the front end in crashes and tumbles. Here are the parts necessary to update the front bumper:

Front Bumper
85071 Shock Tower Set
85072 Lower Mount Set
85073 Front Bumper Set
Z571 TP. Binder Head Screw M3x20mm
Z567 TP. Binder Head Screw M3x10mm

Slipper Clutch
The Nitro MT 2 slipper clutch is a new design using Savage monster truck parts and is made to slip less than the older optional slipper clutch. The Nitro MT 2 slipper clutch includes a new spur gear, however you must use the drive cups from your Nitro MT.

New Slipper Clutch
87138 Slipper Clutch Set

Drivetrain
The Nitro MT 2 features thicker dogbones, which in turn requires larger drive cups, diff shafts and axles. All of these components have been strengthened on the new truck to make sure they can handle the power of the new Nitro Star T-15 engine. While it is possible to upgrade the drivetrain of your Nitro MT to the specs of the Nitro MT 2, if you plan to upgrade all the suspension and drivetrain components, it would be cheaper (and much easier) to purchase a complete Nitro MT 2 truck, which would give you all-new parts plus all the updates in one preassembled truck.

However, for the Nitro MT owner who wants to upgrade a little at a time, we will list the parts necessary to update the drivetrain of the Nitro MT 2:

Drive Train
86225 Cup Joint 7x19mm (D Cut)
86226 Gear Shaft 5x38x7mm (2 required)
86227 Diff Shaft 5x26x7mm (2 required)
86228 Axle 5x36x7mm
86229 Axle 5x41x7mm
86230 Dogbone 7x86mm (2 required)
86232 Dogbone 7x83mm
86233 Dogbone 7x57mm
86234 Cup Joint 7x19mm

hmm..... we it seems like the mt2 is more basher friendly. i dont do anything hard on my cars, no curbs, no rocks and no high ramps. i do mainly rough feild, park with wood chips, and gravle parkways. i do jump but i do many pactice jumps before i go for big air. i want to get into racing too.

it has a new .18ss engine in there. i have never ran anything with more than .55 hp (except my friends t-maxx with a picco .21) its going to be quite a change!!

tell me if this looks like a mt or a mt2.....

It is a MT. Looks to be the RTR but hard to tell. Sorry to say there is not a class for 4 wheel drive stadium truck in sanction racing but some club races will let you run them with the monster trucks. Not that there are more and more 4 wheel drive stadium trucks out there wish they would start a class for them.

yeah, but all the electronics and the engine are different from rtr. im sure he put rtr on there, because it is complete and didnt want to put down "Kit".

its fine, there isnt too much of a difference. i dont go over bad terrain and i dont beat the crap out of the cars. i was just worried that there where vast differences in the chassis and engine layout. besides if i break a part, i will upgrade to mt2 parts. first things first, im changeing the spur to a smaller one, i want to pull off 50mph.

can i use 20% hellicopter or plain fuel instead of car blend??? this one guy pulled off 4+ gallons off a .12 force with plain fuel with 18% lube.

i have used hellicopter fuel in the past and i dont think it hurt anything. hurts proformance, but its hardly noticible.

Well get ready to replace the final gears (ring and pinion) if he has not so far!!!!!!!!! I am not going to try explaining about fuel but read the links I listed below as it says it all. I have experience every thing they say in them and have found it to be VERY true!!!!!!!!
http://www.*********.org/understanding_fuel.htm
http://www.horizonhobby.com/Explore/...ArticleID=1385

Keep in mind helicopter and airplane engines turn about ¼ the RPM the engines we run turn!

yeah. basicly it isnt going to hurt the engine but it will hurt proformance.

i have noticed using high % lube, the engine feels more "spongey". i can see how a noobie will try to get the best proformance possible and end up over leaning the engine. i go by touch and hearing, i feel the head and block to see how hot it is, i dont use fancy guns, i go by feel and by the water drop test. I guess i keep it under 200F, i also shoot for a nice blubbery sound. i never tune for "maximum proformance" i go to where it respons well and doesnt over heat. im very good at tuning this way, i tuned my noobie friend's totaly out of tune t-maxx pico in 5 mins.

whats your favorite fuel?? personaly i like odonnel and blue thunder, i think blue thunder is the best.

It is not only brand but also blend! O’Donnell Ready to Run is crap but there race blend is great. As far as Blue thunder it is way down on my list way down! I like Byron and is why I picked up a sponsorship from them. I have tried many fuels and the two I like best to this point are O’Donnell Race and Byron Race 3000. I will not run any airplane or helicopter fuel in my race engines!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fuel prices seem to very a lot from place to place but most places I have seen in Georgia Byron is cheaper then O’Donnell. Now being sponsored by Byron they send me my fuel. The closes hobby shop to me is over 50 miles away so I get just about all my RC stuff off line. .
