Default Race legal Jato!

Just posting some pics of my finished race legal Jato. Also here are the mods I have.

modded 2.5 trx
Traxxas resonator
single speed conversion
Traxxas center mount battery pack
aluminum turnbuckles
MIP CVD's
RPM a arms
RPM front bumper
Revo shocks with Jato pistons
Duratrax failsafe with temp shutoff
2.2 Yokohama tires and TRX dish wheels died black

If any Jato owner does not have the 6v center mount battery pack you are missing out big time. The response with the 6v is amazing. Throttle and steering is sooo much quicker. The motor was ported, carb ported, head shimmed for more compression and header was also ported. This was a 3.3 jato and I aquired a almost new 2.5 Jato that I took the motor out from and body from. I sent the motor out to get the work done and I did the rest. This thing is very quick for a 2.5 and it handles awsome. It lost 1/2 pound just between the 2.5 conversion and turnbuckles. The revo shocks help keep the oil cooler when on hot racing days but I had to put in the Jato pistons because the Revo ones were too restrictive. I will be going to the track next weekend to do some final adjustments but over all Its ready to go. The only thing I have left is the motor saver air filter and installing the rear a arms but Im going to wait on teh rear arms till they break. I also have a pull start that I can install to lose more weight if I have too.

looks good. But if you are racing just ditch the easy start. Also you should ditch the stock body and do something custom. Gotta look good out on the track.

I have the pull start and it only takes a few min to change it. As for the body once this one gets beat up I will get a crowd pleaser and piant it. I used to race MT but now into st so the body is going to get beat up because its a whole different ball game between MT and ST. Thats why I have not changed the body yet. This season is almost over so it will be just practice for me untill next season.

Its not ROAR legal, you need a .12 motor.

I understand that. Its for the .15 open class. I cant run a 3.3 in the .15 class or even the .21 class. You have ROAR legal .12. class then you have ROAR/IFMAR open class .12 .15 .21. You still have guidlines and need to be race legal even for open class. The Jato in stock form is no where near legal even for open class. Now my truck is race legal for .15 open class.

How do you like the revo springs I found that they were to stiff for me I put the jato stock spings back on my revo sock and it seems to work better over the jumps, i was at the beach the other day jumping over eight foot jumps and it was landing nicely, all in all your jato looks really nice good luck in your races.

Ridgerunner,

Since you have the revo shocks did you change out the pistons? I used the revo shocks with revo pistons and revo springs and it was really stiff. I took the pistons out from my Jato shocks and installed them into the revo shocks and with the revo springs it handles very good. I think the Jato springs are too soft. You can even go with the softer revo springs.

Jatoracing,
What the whole thing with all the mods?

Jato 3.3= 350
Yokohamas and wheels=40
Revo shocks=8
traxxas resonator=20
single speed conversion=10
aluminum turnbuckles=30
f&r RPM arms=20
RPM bumper=10
traxxas battery pack with charger =20
2.5trx mods and cooling head =75
MIP cvd's =30

Total=600

Now I bought a 2.5 Jato in like new condition on ebay for 175. I switched my 3.3 for the 2.5 and put all the 3.3 stuff on the 2.5. I then sold it on ebay for 330.
That gave me 155 profit on the 2.5.
I also sold 2 complete sets of wheels and tires for about 90. That gave me 245.
So 600 - 245 gives me a total of 355 out of my pocket for the initial 3.3 JAto.

some one beat me to the punch about the TRX2.5 being race legal.........he's right its not

it is a nice looking jato but why would anyone put REVO springs on a jato????? that thing must handle horrible even the weakest revo springs are way to hard for the jato....you should really put the stock ones back on and intvest a few more dollars on sway bars to keep the car level threw the turns and not have traction roll

also those tires arent very good choice for REAL raceing......

PS what diff fluid are you running in the rear???

I never said it was ROAR legal. I said it is race legal for open class. As for the springs it does not ride hard at all if you changed the pistons in the shocks. It still soft but not like mush like the stock springs. It handles really well believe it or not. It has no bounce what so ever. As it sits the a arms sit level. As for the swaybars you cant put swaybars on with RPM arms.

Zipties to hold the end of the swaybars? That just may work. My track was just redone this season and its pretty smooth. The Yokohamas work very well at my track. As for the revo springs yes in stock form with the revo shocks they are stiff. If you use revo shock bodies, Jato pistons and revo springs with 35 or 37.5 shock oil its just about perfect. Not too soft and not hard. Alot of people use the revo shocks and springs just the way they come and its very stiff. You have to change the pistons.

zip ties are as good as the stock setup, but its the best way to do it w/o voiding the rpm warranty

Like I said ridgerunner use the jato pistons and shafts and use at least 37.5 shock oil. It makes a huge difference.

Rclynx,
Do I read some sarcasim in your post. IF so why do you think it would not be able to compete? The owner of my local hobby shop races a Jato and a revo and he does great. I got most of my setup ideas from him. The only difference with his is that he has a .12 engine and he races in roar sanctioned races. Im going to race in open class .15.

revo and jato are like night and day...and a .12 engine can put out more torque than your trx 2.5[:'(]

Nope no sarcasim I want to see you compete, it isn't like you see a jato everyday on a track without it over shooting a jump or can't stay on the ground........now Revo's are another story you can't get to a corner without seeing one of those

What kind of .12 would put out more power than the 2.5? The hobyshop owners Jato is really quick come to think of it and I never asked him what motor he has. As for the revo yes there are tons of revos that race adn I have only seen a handful of jato's. Thats what gave me the idea to race the jato is because you dont see many. I wanted something different unlike the revo.
