I know its not an ST but I had to post anyways. My son had a highly modded electric stampede and he wanted a nitro. I said I would sell his Stampede on ebay and buy him his first nitro truck. Well after looking at alot of brands I did not want to spend a ton of money on a name brand. After doing alot of research I ended up with a Redcat Tsunami. Not expecting much of it I was very surprised once I received it. The quality is alot better than expected and the Taiwan cxp.18 engine has to be one of the best running engines I have had to tune. No kidding! I know it sounds odd but the motor runs very smooth and tuning was a snap. Once I fueled the tank I primed the line and 2 pulls it was purring. I broke it in and the power is very good and getting better. I would have to say the speed so far is in the mid 40mph range. The only thing I had to do was put thicker shock oil and some minor adjustments. Its not quite hobby grade but its damn near close. They did alot of right things when building it. Steel axles and drive shafts, ball bearings throughout, shock towers and body mounts look very strong and electronics respond well.. The best thing is the motor. Time will only tell how it holds up. Here are some pics.

Good radio with some servo's, a good metal 13-18 clutch bell, O-rings in the holes for dog bone slack and give it a once over for QC and you have a truggy thats better than some of the braggarts around here that call it junk. exelant truck[&o]

Yah Im liking it so far I might have to get me one. Everything you mentioned is pretty much what I have been reading about. Some minor things will make it a very dependable truck. Do you know what the stock clutch bell size is. It could use some bottom end but had plenty of top end.

yea, sounds like a really good truck to me...not...first off how are you going to get parts when it breaks? order them from china and wait a year to get them?? How many upgrades and hop-ups are made for this truck...just as I thought zero...ummm mid 40's from that...I dont think so, just b/c your used to a stampede going 15-20 you think this car is soooo much faster, sorry bud, it's not. Hpi's mt2 doesn't go 45, and I'll guarantee it's a lot faster than that car is...ummm rclynx, are you a retard, that truck will not be better than some name brand truggies around here...anyways, not my choice at all as you can tell, but w/e only time will tell how good the truck is, if you're happy w/ it then good for you...

rcdude,
Parts are everywhere, easy to get and there are lots of hop up parts for it. Also alot of name brand parts interchange with most of the drivetrain of the Tsunami. If you dont know anything about the truck then dont respond. There is obviously alot you DO NOT know about Redcat. And BTW the stampede did 35 gps with a Trinity speedworks 12t motor, Traxxas xl10 esc and 8.4v battery. I had to replace the stock axles with Jato axles because they kept snapping. Trannie gears all steel and Robinson racing pinion and spur. The Stampede was not slow what so ever and the tsunami was much faster top speed. The tsunami has a 2 speed tranny with an 18 size motor. No reason why it would not do 45.

1. parts: http://www.redcatracing.com/ or http://www.clermontmotorsports.com/servlet/StoreFront or http://allaboutfunhobbies.com/store/catalog/index.php and many others. when i order parts for my redcats, i go to clermont, i get them within 3 days, most of the time, my local hobby stores never have what i need, and if i have them order it, it take at least a week. i have 3 hobby stores i deal with and there are several more i call when i need stuff. i have all brands, hpi, kyosho, team associated amungst others, check out my gallery.
2. hop ups and upgrades: http://www.redcatracing.com/parts_se...MI+&partscat=h
amoungst others
3. i have an hpi mt with an os .18 cvrx and its a single speed, the tsunami he posted is a 2 speed with a .18 engine, it will definately beat the mt, i have both and i know.
4. rclynx is a really nice guy, been in the hobby problably longer than you have been on this earth, you should learn some respect
5. its a decent truck and for the money you cant go wrong, why put it down or him down, if he like it, is happy with it, why say anything, he was just posting his purchase.

Good to hear I thought about one of these but am kinda worried about parts. I've never seen them in A store around here, but man did they not copy my hpi rtr mt!!!! I looked at your pics and thought it was my truck! But it looks like they added reinforcenents on the shock towers and the radio gear is A little different than mine. But all in all I think they could swap A lot of parts!

Yah it does have alot of parts that will work from HPI. THe shock towers are pretty strong. The only thing that I see that may be a weak point is the a arms but I dont read alot about broken a arms. Actually I dont read much about any broken parts on the tsunami. One thing that I did do is put a heavy weight shock oil in the shocks because they were bouncy. The valving is too big inside. I put in a 80wt oil and its pretty good now. There is room and the mounts to mount an 8 shock setup which I may do just because it looks cool. The electronics are not the best but they work and work well. For the price you cant beat them and you can get parts in less than a week. Parts are cheap and there is alot of upgrades you can get like aluminum everything.

Ok I didnt want to stick my foot in my mouth so today I hooked up the gps to my sons Tsunami. After some final tuning I wanted to see what this thing really does. The first few runs I was only getting about 36mph. I noticed it was shifting way too soon and when it hit second it would bog down. I guess it was not in its power band once it shifted. I ended up getting the shift point right after about 5 runs. Top speed was 39.2mph. Alot better but still running rich. I leaned it out and did 2 runs and got 41.4mph but the temps were really getting high. It ran 41.4mph on 20% nitro 10% oil. Outside temps are about 92 degrees and truck was running at 280 so I shut it down. Not 45mph but a respectable 41mph. I will richen it back up so his max speed will be around 37mph. So yes a redcat tsunami can do over 40mph.

It will do a little better than that with the SH .18 and have more torque also
I have a project going right now to see how a .27 will do in the Tsunami

well, yea anything can do over 40 if it's running 280, and only doing 1 straight away run. So the tsunami does around 36, hmmm, same as the stampede huh? Companies love to advertise that their products can go faster than they really normally do...1 reason you don't read about many broken parts on the tsunami, is because not many americans own that car...Also where are you going to find parts at tower, your lhs...I don't think so...
rccanuck, that truck isn't an EXACT copy of anything, so I'll be surprised if other parts from different cars fit well...
anywayz, not my choice...I'm done

You no nothing about redcat. there are alot of parts from HPI that interchange. If you look up the tsunami or any redcat rc you would see that ALOT of people own them and like them. But who am I? I dont know anything. And If you read I did not do 1 pass and the speed was OVER 40. The reason Im tuning it down is because my son does not need to go over 40 and he does not keep an eye on temps. If it were mine I would leave it right where I had it because I can keep an eye on temps. Also temps were in the 90's and humidity was 100%. That has an effect on engine temps. Am I talking to a Kid or what. I dont need to explain myself to anyone that has NO CLUE!!!!!!! Oh BTW did your post get deleted? HMMM I wonder why?

So you would let your truck run at 280? That sounds smart! What makes you think that parts interchange? They are not exact copies, and yes I do know what I'm talking about...this redcat company also made a so called "copy" of a losi lst or one of those monster trucks, and there was a big stink on the mt forum b/c of redcat's copying, however it turns out that it looks the same but all the screw holes are off...therefore it's not the same car and those hpi mt2 parts most likely won't fit...anyway have fun w/ your new car or w/e, trust me, you'll see what I'm talking about in the long run, time will tell...
so how much was it?

Dude its my sons first nitro. Im not gonna buy a 400 truck that he is going to beat up. Besides I only paid 120 new from ebay. I dont mind fixing things when needed. Thats part of the hobby and if something breaks I will replace it with an upgraded part. I did my research before I bought just to make sure I can get parts. I have been doing rc for over 15yrs and if you saw thae junk you had to buy back then the redcat looks like a peice of art. I know its a cheap nitro and dont expect name brand quality from it.. I was just surprised at just how well built it is for the price. Besides if I have to wait a week for a part thats fine. My Jato is highly modded and they dont carry alot of the parts that I would need anyways so I still have to wait. Its all for fun anyways so who cares who has what. Its a first nitro for a 9yo kid and as long as he dont smack a tree or a curb then he will be fine.
