If you want to race the Team Losi AD2 and the Team Associated GT2 are the best there are. If you just want pure out straight line speed then the Jato is your truck, it just doent even come close to being able to handle like the AD2 and th GT2 though when you get on a track.

I gotta agree, you do much hard bashing on a Jato and it won't hold up.

Jato can hold its own bashing and isn't that bad handling with new tires. Its like one person says the jato is overpowered and all of a sudden it can't handle the offroad. Im not saying that the jato is the best handling offroad car but it can handle. Also I think part of the fun of an offroad car is using throttle control and keeping your car stable through turns. SUre if you want aomething that is on rails that isn't the jato but I personally don't see this as much fun (racing is a different story on that). Bashing is good with the jato too. Again it is no MT but I take mine off a large jump with about 6 feet of air and hardly brake a thing. I have stripped a spur a broken one tower thats it, and this is after multiple cartwheel landing on the lid, flips ect. And with larger tires the Jato will flip also. So all I'm saying is that the Jato is fast and it can handle a lot better then people give it credit for. A lot of the problem is that people by jato's, put big motors and onroad tires on them and never put them in the dirt.

a jato with correct tires is still more capable than the vast majority of "drivers"
lots of people talk many bad things about the jato, mainly because they're jealous of the speed, or they expected it to perform off road with it's street treads
it has tons of adjustability in the suspension, and a ton of power

jatos are tough, fast, and lots of fun......
2wd trucks are already the most challenging trucks to drive, why not throw a way oversized motor in it for even more fun

The Jato is a fast straight line speed truck it really is. But no we are in no way jealous of it's speed, cause most of us who talk about it own a Team Losi or a Team Associated. Believe me The Jato may be fast but you can go ahead and put new tires on it and adjust all you want with it. But you put it on a track with a Team Losi, or A Team Associated and it will get raped every time with two drivers that have the same capabilities.
Believe me where not Jealous, but just trying to steer a person who wants to buy a good vehicle away from a truck that only really has high speed. If thats what you want then go ahead and go for it. But dont even think about calling us Jealous though, the reason why people compare it to the Jato is because thats what a lot of people have. They come in off the street and see the top speed of the Jato and instanly want it. Thats basically why they want it, for the top speed. Cause if you wanted anything else in a ST then you surely would go for something else. Not saying that the Jato is a piece of crap but in comparison the Jato doesnt even come close to handling like a AD2 or GT2 would and they have way more adjustable then the Jato is. So Just cause where trying to steer a guy away from nothing but pure out speed and shotty servoes doesnt mean that we are jealous by any means.

What about the the 2.5 Jato?
Stormer Hobbies still has these older Jatos for sale with the dirt tires.
Would that thing be any good? Im also looking for a nitro truck.

on the track i would agree that a gt2 is way better than a jato but shotty servos? please, i seen no servos more shotty then the ones that come with a team associated rtr, now if your talking the kit then thats different because that relies on what you put in it on mine a gt2 with a 3.3 (yes i actually put the 3.3 in it) i went with the traxxas servos mostly because the price was good and they were high torque.
but dont say that the jatos servos are bad because mine work great in fact better than the ones that came with my firestorm or ones from the rtr gt2(my friend has one and the electronics that came with it completly suck) the controll of the gt2 especially for the track is better than any other stadium truck i have seen.
as for losi i will not even put them in the same catagory i have the xxxt electric and it has broken no less than 12 times in like maybe 15 runs, the ball joints suck, the connecting rods suck, even the transmission sucks, untill i got the xxxt i had never seen a ball-bearing dif acually twist apart from the ball-bearings grinding away the plastic.
it was by far the worst made heap of junk i ever wasted money on, i would actually put the jato above it on the track just because you could smash into the losi once and win by default.
and anyway my comment about people comparing thier cars to the jato was in reference to people who say thier cars are fast by declaring they can beat a jato in top speed.
and since so many people always use the jato as a statement of how fast thier cars can go it means the jato is the staple for high speed cars.
im not sure why anyone would suggest though a jato for off-road because it was designed as an on-road high-speed truck and was never made for track racing.
im not sure about the jealous factor but every other statement that sloppyg made was correct it is not an off-road truck but it does have the ability to be adjusted.
and as far as rtr's go its one of if not the best one out there it has good electronics a good engine and well made parts, dont forget that ae was bought out by thunder-tiger and all of the parts for them are now made in china and poorly at that. i have the factory team addition gt2 and every single hex screw had to be replaced because of poor manufacturing they all twisted apart or stripped just trying to build it( i found out later that those screws had been recalled because of it being a bad batch nice of them not to recall the kit but instead make someone send them in with shipping and handling charges to get them replaced in 4-6 weeks so at least my jato worked when i bought it and didnt need to be recalled because of shotty screws.

put the jato and AE/Losi in a parking lot and watch the exact reverse thing happen due to the lack of power in the race trucks
there are far more parking lots than offroad RC racetracks, and most RC users NEVER get on a track at all

ok look enough arguing bout Jato it is fast but its not a legal ST so lets actually try and help this dude out. if you want something good for the track i suggest a Losi ad2 or you can get a rustler i have one and it is pretty fast and despite what people say it handles pretty well as for my (co-owned) Jato 3.3 i have no problems anywhere w/ either one. but w/e you get have fun.

I know this is a bit off topic but am i the only one that thinks a jato is pretty useless? Sure its really fast on the road but ST trucks are meant to be run in dirt not pavement. why not just get an onroad car if you want to go fast then?
On top of that the jato does not handle well in the dirt and it isnt even race track legal. whats the point?

for answering the actuall question posted here i would say either gt2 or firestorm but if you go with the gt2 get the kit otherwise you will be throwing away all of the electronic garbage in the rtr gt2.
also make sure it has the updated hex screws beleive me you dont want the recalled ones.
for the cheaper way the firestorm is a good reliable truck that is pretty well balenced and tough, as far as fast it does have a .18 in it (not a really good one though) but for dirt its not too bad.

Now had he been driving a Jato. It would have soaked up that bump no problem.
I guess my point is that a Jato is great for people who want speed and will be running in not so perfect parking lots.
Im thinking of getting one now for the this reason. I think it looks great and I'll never get into racing. My closest track is dominated by 1/8th scale racing. They dont race 1/10 scale anymore for lack of interest. ANd I dont have to get into racing anyway. So a jato is great for anyone like me.

Ok if you want track speed get a losi or other car. If you want bashing speed then get a JATO. How many people here have a jato? It can handle dirt fine. Im not even an experienced driver and I can handle the jato on dirt fine. I also don't mean like just going straight and turning around, I mean drifting around turns and actually controlling where I'm driving. The thing is the Jato is fast, yes if you have throttle control you can control it. I believe if you take a turn at 60 mph with any truck you are going to be out of control. It has a brake for a reason. So stop hating on the jato just cause it is fast, I own one I can drive it on dirt and it is perfect.
So to anwser the question on here. If you want track time speed then get a gt2 but if you want something just fast and fun to drive ANYWHERE then get a Jato.

Ohhh no I was never arguing here.
It all comes down to opinions here, basically if you want all out speed on pavement then a Jato is the way to go. But if your going off road then A Team Losi or Team Associated is the way to go. Yeah your right there are a lot of parking lots out there, a lot more then Dirt tracks. But sooo there's a lot more front and back yards out there for us to run on then parking lots though. So go figure............ But never the less, personally I think traxxas rc's are more geared towards Noobs which isnt bad. I started out with a traxxas, and ran many a traxxas vehicles, and there alright for what they do. But if you put them on a track against a Losi or Associated and try and race or just messing around in the yard they dont compare to the Losi's or Associated vehicles.
And the statement that if you want to go fast on pavement then get a on raod car I think is correct. For what the Jato was designed for it does well. But remember that the whole world isnt covered in Pavement though. But it's all up to you Losi8tboy, Weve given you the info that you need plus a little more.
But with the name Losi I woulda thought that you woulda made up your mind already!! Just messing with ya buddy.

I have both and an rc10gt with an os.18 cv-r is almost as fast as a jato onroad and offroad it rapes it... if i was going to buy new cars i would buy an MT2 for 4x4 a shumacher fusion for onroad speed and an rc10gt for bashing.. if you want speed the fusion does 0-80mph in 5 seconds that quicker than the jato can hit 65 if you want offroad the mt2 4x4 has double the excelleration of the jato offroad... The jato is good for straight line parking lot bashing...I have raced jatos on a 100meter paved oval and its not even a race i kill them in the corners every time. The last two times i raced the jato it was a blow out. The very last time the jato flipped in the first corner and i won the race. the race before i almost lapped the jato in a 5 lap race

do you guys think a guy with a one line post asking for the fastest offroad truck is asking for a track weapon or a basher?
