What kind of Futaba radio are you using???? Some radios have built in failsafes and adding an external one will just cause problems...

I have a 2 channel $40 one. I don't think it has a failsafe in it but just to be sure how do I check it?

Read the instruction manual that it came with.....BUT if it's a plain jane $40 one i seriously doubt it...

As far as your old FS not working, it could be as simple as it was damaged when you removed it from the old radio. They are fairly inexpensive and can fail at any given time.
