Default rusty build need some advice

hey guys got a old rustler ( was actually my first hobby rc ever built it with my old man many many years ago) what do you think would be a good bashing motor for it with decent speed? My esc can handle 12t. This is a budget build since most of my rc money is going into the crawler build. I also need to find a receiver and controller. Any other tips or advice feel free to chime in!!

i think it may be very worth your while to spend a little money on a brushless system like the sidewinder from castle creations. [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXUTA1&P=7]it may be a little more then you wanted to spend,[/link] but its a good solid system, and just about anybody will tell you brushless is the way to go.

[link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXCFW2**&P=7]i like this controller[/link]. on a budget, i think they're good solid controllers, comfortable and functional without all the big bells and whistles, and for the money is what i'd go with.

looks like a nice setup but i really need to keep this on a small budget i have two other rc projects that take priority over this. I am getting this going so the other half can try it out and for a basher for me. should i go with the titan 12t? or is their better motors for around the same money?

it depends what kind of batteries you're using. The controller i use for my rc10gt, and i had been using it in my t3, but the receiver died in the gt, so the radio system was donated to it. so after letting the t3 sit for a while, and after having a great time with my max and 25 system, i figured i'd get a sidewinder system for the t3 to bring it back to life. previous to that i was running a reedy modified 19t motor w/ an lrp AI, and its faster then that now. Until i can get the updated castle link software (having download issues), i haven't bothered to reprogram the esc with radio so i've just been running my 3s lipo, and it books. its geared tall (87/12) and with the lower kv motor (4600) it probably runs a good 45mph, give or take. but again the truck is geared pretty tall so there's more speed potential. And where the batteries come into play is the motors are rated at rpm/volt. so the more voltage you run through the motor the more rpm it will turn. but depending on how its geared i don't think you would have a difficult time getting 40mph out of a 2s lipo.

my max system is 87/15 (5700 motor) and with the 3s lipo its gotta be hitting 50+. i mean its just ridiculously fast. most of the time the tires spin when it launches on the pavement, but when its mid throttle and accelerated, the front end comes right off the ground. i mean its seriously just impractically fast.

ideally with a 2s lipo i think you'd be really happy, but since its a budget, and if you're running nimhs i think you'll still be pleased. Nimhs are heavier and will have less of a discharge rate so there won't be as much "punch" to it. You'll also definately want to get deans or traxxas high current connectors. if you're running tamiya style, they're fine for a crawler but just useless in a brushless system, there's just too much resistance.

from what i've heard the titans don't last as long as some of the others.. but i believe the performance is pretty decent.

reedy builds nice motors, i guess for the money the titan might just be the way to go. i mean for a budget truck that'll be for just for some easy going bashing, it should preform fine for you. i've just personally given up on the whole brushed deal after being enticed by these brushless motors with almost no maintainance, great power, and high efficiency.

id just get on ebay and get the traxxas controller and receiver it does a fine job on a budget you really dont need anything more if your just bashing i have a venemline 15t 540 motor it will work well with your speed control for around 20 dollars it does great in my sons stampede
