need new engine sugestions for older hpi nitro mt
it currently has the nitro star .15 fe right now, i thought maybe the G3.0 would work so i did some swaping between my firestorm and mt and there seems to be carb clearance issues and problems in the clutch bell area.is there a drop in engine for this truck. am i doing something wrong with the 3.0. my son wants to put a os max .18tz in i told him
that might be a tad much maybe a cv-rx would work better. what are you guys running.
thanks shane

.18 CV-RX is a great engine. Lots of power and keeps it's tune. In my opinion prolly one of the best engines you can get for a $100.

I had one of those a few years ago. I dropped a RB V12 in it and it flat out halled. Not sure if your wanting to drop that kinda cash. The OS 18 is a good choice. Might even look into the [link=http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_info.php/cPath/1_23_31/products_id/17382]OS .21 revo[/link] engine. Its based of the small block (.18) case and should fit. Again its going to cost a few bucks but that should be insane power.

i have the g3.0 for my mt1! for the carb clearence. you have to move the braketo the other side of the tranny box. and get longer brake wire for your servos. but it can be switched to make room. but as forthebell. i havethe old two speed tranny. i had toget a mip cluch, offna cluch nut, andAE flywheel. the two speed cluchbellis on. but i havenot mounted the engineyet.i got the two hole cheap engine mount. it does not fit. i haveread some post on heresaying that you need the g3.0 engine mount for the mt2. but i dont know if it fits yet with my two speed. thetwo hole mounts want to mount between the front twoslots on the chasie(cant spell)
but keep me posted if you fig anything else out and how you do it!!!
and if anyone else knows if the g3.0 engine mount for the mt2 will fit a mt1 with two speed tranny let me know please! i need to send back my parts to tower and get the right one.

The G3.0 fits fine. You just need the engine mount from the MT2. A buddy of mine just had this problem with his original Nitro MT. He had the 2-speed transmission and was told it wouldn't fit. Here's what he did:
Buy this engine mount: http://www.rcplanet.com/HPI_Racing_E...p/hpi86000.htm
You will probably need to move your brake to the other side of the transmission too.
Also, there were complications as the crank on that engine is completely different than the stock .15, so we had to go with another flywheel (Nitro TC3 in this case) as well as a couple washers and another clutch to line up the clutch bell flush and all that jazz. But we've ran about 10 tanks through it and all has been perfect so far. Should be even easier with a single speed tranny. It's possible, just not exactly a straight drop in.
