I run pretty much the same truck as seen in the traxxas ultimate off road jato, about all the upgrades and settings.
In grass and over rough terrain, my diff has a tendency to unload too quickly, so I have one tire in the air spinning, hence ballooning, like mad.
Any idea what wt the stock fluid is?
What is the thickest you can get? OFNA 120,000wt?
Is that too much? What to go with?

im confused about the question... are you having issues with your differensial or you shocks?
while i had my jato i never had to take the tranny apart but with all of my other cars i use grease in my diffs, not oil.
and i dont understand what you mean when you said it "unloads"... can you explain a bit more?

Okay, I was told at the LHS that if I wanted my diff to be tighter I should use OFNA 120,000wt oil in it. I don't know if your cars have a ball diff, the same effect of tightening the diff.
http://www.traxxas.com/products/nitr...to_details.htm
"Sealed Limited Slip Differential
The sealed limited slip gear differential can be precisely tuned with lighter or heavier lube for maximizing rear traction and cornering performance. "
-Jato details
So where do I get this heavier lube? Should I use the OFNA fluid? I don't want to lock the diff but I want it to be rather tight.
As far as 'unloads' I mean that all the spin goes to the inside tire too easily, for instance, picture this, you are on a thick lawn doing about 20mph and as you accelerate out of the turn the inside tire suddenly gets all the torque and loses traction, spins hence spinning madly. On dirt this would result in an easy spin out.

If you fix the ballooning of your tires it will help alot in both traction and unloading. Also, I have learned over time that tires on the jato mean so much more than you might think. With some very good tires, you will not unload as easy. Most are going to say the moabs are great, but i take it to a higher level of traction than those things are capiable of on grass or any surface.

I got my stock tires for onroad. I would keep the diff stock if I was driving on road 100% of the time, but I never really run on road!
I guess im gonna try the 120k, see how that works.
Maybe try some peanut butter if that doesnt work well
