hi there ,new to this .can you install a gt2 engine into gt 1.

you can put whatever small block engine you really want in either vehicle, you just need a different clutch setup and quite possibly a different throttle linkage if you switch between slide/rotary.

But, to keep things simple, just get a short shaft engine with a rotary carb for the first gen GT.

i personally would recommend a slide carbie. the linkage is very simple for that also. the low end response of the slide really compliments the gt1's low weight.
