i need(want) a better engine for my hpi nitro mt2. when i got this truck it had a .15 hpi in it, which starts and runs well(out of the truck). Does anyone have experience with this engine/truck combo.
1)Will i want to go bigger (.18) or is the .15 good enough for that truck.
2)Since i don't really know all of what it has been through...should i use HPIs engine replacement plan and get a new one for $65. Or, find something on ebay.
i will be mostly backyard and park bashing with this one, might make it to the track a couple of times.
thanks for any input.

An o.s 18 cv-rx is perfect for the mt2 and is plenty fast for the average guy. If you want even more power than get an 18 tz. Both drop right in, except for the fact that the tz needs a rear exhaust manifold.

the CVR is the best bang for your buck. you can easily find one for under $100. I had one in my mt2 and it was quite fast. it has alot more power than the stock .15 engine. I have a TZ in my RC10GT and I don't think the power gain over the CVr is really worth the money. but both are excellent engines. you could also try to find a HPI 18ss on ebay. they are very nice engines. I had on in one of my other cars and it was one of the easiest engine to tune that I have ever had. If I was you I would go find a deal on ebay for the CVR but thats just my opinion.

You will need a lot of drive train upgrades in order for the MT2 to handle the power of the TZ.

if you wanna go real crazy you can do something like this.

for just a little bit more power than the stock engine, the hpi .18ss is a good upgrade, plus you can use hpi's upgrade policy and get it for pretty cheap.

Awesome thanks. How does the 2 Speed handle offroad? I'm a little cautious cause it doesn't have the clutch slipper.
This what I am running. MT2 18SS+, O.S .18TZ-TX and 15/49 gearing. Running a different pipe, one in the picture is the HPI RS4 pipe, I am running THS .18 Pipe now.

the two speed doesnt even shift until about 40 mph, so usually off road it stays in first gear. ive only stripped one spur gear, but thats because i didnt have the mesh right when i put the engine back on after doing some work. on road when it does shift, it really screams though. pulls the front wheels up and i have had it clocked at just shy of 90mph.
EDIT: and its a mt1 not a mt2

90Mph? are you sure? That seems way too fast, thats like 145 Km/h. I would have to see evidence before I believed that. Even though that engine is a HPI 4.6 it would be heavy and would loose speed. The drive train would tear apart from the sheer pressure the engine would put in the diffs at that speed. It may produce 2.9HP over the claimed 2.28 the TZ does but the RPM would be a lot different. I'm not doubting you at all, I may put a BB in mine later but if not I will throw in a brushless system
What gearing are you running?

its all stock gearing. it was clocked with a chp radar gun that was calibrated the day before. its not really that unbelievable. the stock rs4 will go approximately 45 with half the horsepower and different diff. gears. the 4.6 doesnt weigh that much more.
