Hello, so I'm getting into nitro after a bit of 18 scale electric. I found a great deal on a firestorm, but the problem is he says that the engine overheats too fast and he isn't sure of the problem. I'm assuming it is simple (air leak/tuning prob/whatever) but I am worried that the engine is shot. If I purchase the firestorm, and the engine is toast, I'd have to wait 1-2 months to purchase a new engine.
I'm trying to convince him to lower the price and sell it to me without the engine, and I'd just buy a new one. Would this be wise? What would you do in this situation?
I do know of a nitro rustler that is completely RTR no engine probs or anything for the same price as the firestorm, but I think I'd be more happy with a firestorm. I've heard that the rustler is a bit behind in technology compared to the firestorm. I'd be happy with the rustler as well, I've just heard much more good things about the firestorm.
So what would you do in this situation? Is it a good chance that this engine is toast and I should buy it without the engine, or is it a good chance the engine is fine? I have heard that if you run the mixture too lean you have a danger of hurting your engine.. this is what I am worried that this dude did.
Also, what engine would you recommend? Just the stock firestorm HPI 3.0g? I'm looking for something near $100 in price.
Thank you in advance,
Michael

You could just get the whole thing,(engine and all)and if the engine works good you could keep it for a while. If its no good, you could send it to HPI and let them give you a brand new G3.0 for half price.Whats he pricing it at right now?How old is it?

Well he has no feedback and don't sound like he has a clue about nitro.I would be patient and wait till someone with a good rep sells one that way you know what your getting. From the sound of the add and his replys sounds like you might be getting someone elses junk and you don't want that.Look on here and keep a eye out on the bay there on there from time to time cheap.I just bought a practically new mt2 off the bay last week for 100 shipped so they are out there. If you get this truck and you have motor issues I would trade you a motor.I have a bunch of small blocks if you really need one.Good luck and honestly I would pass on that truck unless he comes down in price.I have a few 10th scale rollers I would part with if interested pm me.

Hey thanks guys I bought an RC10GT instead. $170 shipped with an extra engine, carb, shocks, tires, and some other stuff... plus no worries about anything being faulty
. Oh and btw the Firestorm was $120, you can find it on the classifieds.. there sure is some good deals on there - especially for nitro [8D]

Good choice rc10gt's are great trucks. The Firestorm is a great truck that you would of been happy with to but the seller of the one you were looking at seemed shady.I asked for pics and some detailed info on the truck and pretty much got a big run around about why he couldn't get pics. There are always good deals in the classifieds but you have to really watch who your dealing with lot's of good people but a bunch of scammers aswell.I buy and trade quite a bit just watch who your dealing with.Good luck with the gt it's a awsome truck.
