Default shrinking rear axle

What am I over looking? The right rear CVD axle comes out of my rc10gt when the rear suspension unloads. The axle looks too short, the suspension parts are all assembled correctly and the rear shocks are stock units. What gives?

Even at rest the axle looks too short, then as soon as the suspension unloads under power the cvd comes out.

The rear hub spacers are correct and the trans looks ok internally. Anyone seen this problem before?

Wow that axle does seem short. I have never seen that unless you bought them for another vehicle and placed them on the GT. Check with your LHS if you have one near by. Are you sure you bought the correct CVD's for the GT?

I bought the truck used a few years ago and they were allready in there, so I don't know their history.

Both axles measure the same length. This truck ran a couple of seasons ago with a HPI .12 and stock rc10gt tires and never had a problem.

If the axle shaft was 1/8th of an inch longer it would work fine.

As far as hobby shops go I am on a deserted island it seems.

There are different offset hubs which will fit on the GT's, I don't think they are ment for the GT's but they fit. I have some at home and dont know what they are off of but same problem. You should be able to take them both off and compair the distance from the mount hole to the outside edge to see the difference. I have a couple of GT's, a T-3, a B-3 and a Klien sprint car, I suspect the hubs may be from one of those models?

I had a similar problem using MIP CVD's on a Nitro Rustler. Sometimes a good launch (wheelies sometimes did it even) would flex the suspension just enough to get the dogbone to come out. I used some of those graphite shim washers from Traxxas between the steel outdrives and the trans case to get a little better engagement. The outdrive transmission stub was just long enough to still get the setscrew to grab and hold. Also, if there isnt a flat area milled into the axle stubs out of the transmission, take a dremel or grinder to it and add a small flat so the setscrew is setting on a flat surface. They tend to come loose on a round one.

Just an idea..
