Default Nitro Hawk engine?

i just won a nitro hawk on ebay (hoyah!) and now im left with the question of what engine to run in this bad boy since the included one is crapped out apparently. ive been unable to find anything exotic and new that isnt for a touring car, a stock mill, or an os which theirs nothing wrong with them, i actualy loved the os in my old rc10gt, but i like to be speckalz as yall know.

so does anyone have any ideas, im thinking of tring to squeez the losi speed nt enging in but im worried about fit and tuneability (losi engines have a good rep around here but i hear they are a pain to tune)

bdw no i will not be lazy and do an e-conversion, just too much guilt involved if i did

heres the hawk i won

Oh god... good luck. The crank from the old image .12 engine will fit in an ae .15 and run (i have set a few of them up that way). The location of the flywheel and clutch requires the use of the original traxxas engine or crank if you want the same engine location. You can always drill some new motor mount locations so a regular style engine can be fit. I occasionally see the NOS image .12 engines on ebay... I would wait for one of those to come along before messing the thing up. Not the fastest engine, but runs and looks good.

The hawk originally came with the Image 12 and then they released it with an upgrade motor, the pro 15. The image 12 is no longer made, and they're hard to come by even on ebay. The simplest engine to installwould be thepro 15 as it would drop right in. They don't sell the pro 15 with the long crankshaft needed for the hawk anymore, so you'll have to buya pro 15 with regular crankshaft andinstall the crankshaft from your bad motor in it. If the long crankshaft in your bad motor is no good, you'll need to buy one. The crankshaft is discontinued by traxxas, but you can still find them new on ebay (part number 4020)

Any more powerful of a motor and you'll probably be blowing your tranny out. I believe the diff gear is of smaller pitch (smaller teeth) than the standard 32pitch gears on most nitro

yeah, the tranny has the 48p that the newer 1/10 trx models do, as well as the srt, tcp, eagle, etc.

i may very well drop in the losi speednt engine or an os, since im going to wind up modding it anyway ya know[&:]

im gonna need to get a ton of stuff to get this thing race spec'd, need a bump box, a pipe (maybe find an old MIP stinger kit for it), and i need nitro to boot

when i get it, ill see what needs to be done

Sometimes you see an NOS Thorp mount kit on eBay. It coverts the clutch and lets you put in a 'standard' O.S. or engine with the same fitment.
