Which Engine?
i need a engine for my nitro evader. the stock .18 has gone bad and i need a new one that will fit. what ones do you think are good that will fit the evader? my price range is less than 100$
|
RE: Which Engine?
Well I'd rebuild it instead of getting a new engine. There aren't many "good" engines under that price. This is the only engine that is really under $100 http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXFDJ3&P=0 but I wouldnt spend the money to get it.

RE: Which Engine?
i see that your signature says your a engine rebuilder and you think i should rebuild my engine. does that just mean buy a new piston and sleeve?
|
RE: Which Engine?
I have faith you can do it on your own, in fact, I will get you the part numbers...
Piston/Sleeve: LXCLV8 PRICE: 30.99 Head Gasket: LXCLW2 PRICE: 1.79 Pretty cheap to revive the engine if you like it :D. |
RE: Which Engine?
thanks alot rccars. i'll post pictures of the sleeve in a few.
|
RE: Which Engine?
alrighty dude... i'll be here.
|
RE: Which Engine?
heres some pictures of the sleeve: i tryed to get some pictures of this yellowish spot inside the sleeve. could this be the worn out part?

RE: Which Engine?
That yellow spot could either be a castor oil build up, or rust... I'd say if you like that engine, perform an engine rebuild. If I started buying, rebuilding engines and sold them... would u guys consider it at all? I have always wondered, its an idea at the moment. I know this guy who wants to sell me TRX Pro .15s by the dozen that all need rebuilds.
|
RE: Which Engine?
so what would i need to buy to rebuild the engine? you should rebuild engines.
rccars, do you have AIM or MSN? |
RE: Which Engine?
all u need is the piston/sleeve and a head gasket. I should buy/rebuild/sell the engines... it would be cheaper than buying a new one... I'll ponder that idea.
|
RE: Which Engine?
would rebuilding it garentee it to run and start correctly again?
|
RE: Which Engine?
yeah, it would be like a new one... if u did it right.
|
RE: Which Engine?
ok. im goin to head out to my hobby shop tomorrow and see if they have the right parts. if not, i'll get them from tower. thanks alot rccars.
how would i not do it right? |
RE: Which Engine?
some people are goofs... its impossible with common sense :D
|
RE: Which Engine?
aha! i have common sense. so i think i could do it right. i just gotta make sure to line up the exost holes though.
|
RE: Which Engine?
well if u dont have confidense, I'd do it but I'd only charge you 10 bucks for a rebuild instead of 20 so u can get an idea of how "good" i am. I can get u a rebuild guide if u want one.
|
RE: Which Engine?
a rebuild guide??
dont you just put the piston in and sleeve in then gasket in? |
RE: Which Engine?
yeah, that and clean it up really good. If u lose those g clips, they are extremely hard to find though lol.
|
RE: Which Engine?
That almost gold appearance isn't rust or buildup.... It's the inner coating (don't know it's chrome or not on this model) that is WORN AWAY... The gold is the brass part of the sleeve. With that big a patch I'd wager that for your last quart or so you were having real problems with heat and it cutting off.... not to mention being impossible to tune.
|
RE: Which Engine?
lol, forgot about that... thats extreme wear if u got down past the nickel/chrome plating.
|
RE: Which Engine?
so my sleeve is EXTREMLY WORN?
|

RE: Which Engine?
sure sign of a rebuild well needed
|
RE: Which Engine?
ok. then i'll go to my LHS and get the parts and see if i can put it together. what should i clean the engine with?
|
RE: Which Engine?
hmm... sometimes paper towels is all it takes.
