RE: filter oil?

my guess would be no, but ive never really tried it, a motor oil works though i think (correct me if wrong guys).

RE: filter oil?

ive heard of people using WD-40, but ive also heard it doesnt do a good job at keeping fine particles out... i would definatly stick with a regular filter oil... why bother with anything else...its 3 or 4 dollars and your engine is at least 100, so i would just get it.

WD40 is great stuff but it has solvents in it so I would not use it for the air filter, go to the local motorcycle shop and pick up a can of air filter oil, I use dish soap to clean the filter let dry completely if you have 3 or 4 foams put them in a baggy with some oil and squeeze them together with the oil in the bag. Make sure that you remove the extra oil from the filter, RED

aero-

I would not use WD-40 as a substitute for air filter oil. As snowball said it's only a few bucks and it's designed to make sure nothing gets through the filter except air. I however have used WD-40 before as a sub for after-run oil......but that's when I was in a pinch and didn't have any after-run on hand.

Go to a motocross shop (dirtbikes) and pick up some foam air filter oil in a spray can. I have this 2 foot tall bottle I picked up for 7 bucks. It will last for the life of 2 rebuilds (or so i estimate at my rate.)

RE: filter oil?

ya, never ever use wd-40, because the air filter oil is sticky and wd-40 isnt

RE: filter oil?

The problem with WD-40 is that it evaporates from the filter.

RE: filter oil?

Go get some cheap synthetic oil, I completely forgot that you can use some of that. get a quart of Valvoline synthetic or Pennzoil... they are both low priced and they should get the job done [:-]
