nitro evader problems need help please

I cant keep my evader running, It will run for a minuet or two, then dies. Then it wont restart for about 15 minuets or so, seems like its flooding, but leaning her out dont work. My brother in law also has the same problem with his and even the two of us together cant get it figured out. If anyone has any tips or has had this same problem, any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

is it a fouled glow plug?

does it run at all? or die when you give it throttle? do you smell raw fuel?

where is Tampico? maybe if it's close to the Joliet area I can come and give you a hand..

The plug is ok, It runs awesome for about 45 seconds to a minuet and a half, then it just stalls and i cant get it to restart for awile. If I let it sit for about 15 min. or so itll fire up and run for a min or so then stall again and do the same thing. I have noticed alot of fuel going through the exhaust line though

you are flooding it.. let me find my book and I'll be right back (I can't remember which needle is what)

check your high speed needle (the one by the air filter) it should be about 1 1/2 turns out from fully closed. To check this turn the needle clockwise all the way in, don't wrench on it, just where it starts to feel snug, then back it out 1 1/2 turns, I think mine is set about 1 3/4

then check your low speed needle, if you haven't adjusted it, it should be cool.. but it should be flush with the brass housing that it sits in..

lastly, pop your air filter off and check when the throttle is neutral, there should be about a 1.5mm hole in the carb that you can see, if there isn't go ahead and adjust the idle screw so there is, this is where my problem was it seems.. it was too closed, you'll have to open it a bit..

then try it again and see what happens..

Didnt work, still wants to die, but does run longer, I had my high speed settin on that the manual was saying, right at 1 1/4 no wonder it took so long to restart...... I just hope my problem isnt motor damage from runnin too lean, any other thoughts that help?? thanks again

as soon as it gets started take off dont let it sit to stall as soon as it starts go and dont stop till its been wormed up

Does it still have good compression? When the engine is cool, turn the flywheel with your finger. (Make sure you're turning it the right way, pull the pull start to know which way is right) Is it easy to turn all the way around? or is there a place where you have to apply lots of force to get it to turn over?

If it turns all the way around easily, you are probably due for a rebuild.

Have you checked the running temp. when it stalls? Mine will actually boil the fuel back out of the carb. if I run it too lean. I run mine at about 2 turns out now, but I think altitude and fuel % makes a difference in that...

RE: nitro evader problems need help please

cool thanks for the tip, that is one thing that I havent even thought to do, I guess Ill invest in a temp gauge, the compression seems to be really good, but I do honestly wonder if I have caused some internal damage. I was running the highspeed needle about 1 1/4 turns out. For some strange reason that is what the manual says it should be at. My brother in law has the exact same problem that I do, and his carb settings were the same as mine. I ll give it a try at 2 turns and let yall know what happens. thanks again for all the help

mine is doing the same thing except mine loses its prime(fuel runs back to the tank) as soon as it stalls. i dont know i might have a bad fuel line or something.

do you have a primer on it if so dont use it insted put your finger over the pipe with out the glow igniter in it. then pull you pull start or if you have a roto start. then the fule shuld go in to the motor. or you can have a lose o ring if my suggeston arnt working see you hobby shop and see if he will do a tun up on it. i just sent my savage 25 in for a tune up because i broke o pisston. one more thing what car or truck are you runing and what size motor

My evader overheats bad if i run 1 1/4 turn out. Tho if i run 2 turns out it goes NOWHERE. Like... 8mph tops. I don't have a clue how people can run 2 turns on an evader.. no matter what fuel or altitude or temp they're in.. mine is a slug at 2 turns.

I just havent had good luck at all this year, Im having all these problems with my evader, and every time I get my Overdrive st out I break bevel gears, or spin the ring and pinion gears in that one. My dad keeps telling me to quit wasting my money on the little ones, that I should just break down and buy a Savage. Im starting to think he might be right

dude, once you get it dialed in, it'll run just fine, it's just finding the happy spot.. I think that 1 1/4 out is a bit lean for our area.. go richer, adjust 1/4 turn and try it again..

Yeah, I think its gettin close now, But now I gotta wait a few days, I stripped my spur gear, that bites!!!! As far as the overdrive, I think its my fault the gears broke. Was tryin to show off a little for the neighbor kid and was doin donuts on pavement. Completely turned the bevel gears to dust. I wont do that again!!

What type of fuel are you running? I found that running with a 15% sport blend, with lots of oil (Omega by morgan fuels), when the engine was running really well, it was running really hot. After a while the carb would get too hot and boil the fuel in the fuel line, causing it to run lean or quit.

I switched to a 20% fuel and it ran better at a richer setting, keeping the temps down.

I'm convinced by my own observations and the science of how these motors work, that more nitro = cooler temps.

Bgrassguitar 06-14-2005 10:49 AM

RE: nitro evader problems need help please

I was running 15% Omega in mine because I thought less nitro = cooler running temps, but I am beginning to think that you are right. I think that I'll probably try 20% next time I buy fuel. I've got mine tuned in pretty good on the 15%, but it does run pretty hot. I can't run more than two full tanks before it starts boiling the fuel.

Im currently running 20% O'donnell, I was running 15% wildcat, When my dad found out that I was running 15% He told me it would be better to run 20% The sad part is, he's 54 years old, Im 26 and he's got better trucks (toys) than I do, isnt it supposed to be the other way around????

Me too. However a keener understanding of how these engines work has given me new insight.

With a higher nitro %, you are burning more fuel each stroke with the same volume of air. You are running richer and pushing more of the cooling fuel/oil through the system each stroke. This is why it can lead to cooler temps. (and shorter run-times)

Does anyone know about where the low speed screw should be set at? thanks

my evader did the EXACT same thing yours did and when i took to the hobby shop they tore it down and the piston/sleeve was worn out. from running to lean

RE: nitro evader problems need help please

Well the results are in, Shes definitely blown. So is it possible to put a 21 or a 25 in an evader? or an Overdrive?

RE: nitro evader problems need help please

You can't put that big of an engine in with out lots of work and then it will destroy the tranny anyway. But if your evader is under 2 yrs. old send it in to duratrax with the reciept and they will rebuild it for free as it is covered under warrenty.
