RE: rustler or xcellerator??
Shoot... The stock ones are fine for me. I never broke a shock before... Are you talking about the shock caps? If so, just get some alluminum shock caps but that dosne't mean you have to get all alluminum shocks.

RE: rustler or xcellerator??
too late, i already have alloy ones, but no the shock cracked after big junps and the shafts bend easy, but not with the alloy ones.

RE: rustler or xcellerator??
Geez man. What kind of alluminum shocks are you using, I'm using some horrible shocks from Associated for one of mine.

RE: rustler or xcellerator??
the duratrax eveder st pro ones, they are bottom filling which means that the piston can go all the way up into where the cap usually is (super long travel). i wrote a massive post with full details here . http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_3188047/tm.htm

RE: rustler or xcellerator??
I've heard of some people having problems with leaking with Duratrax shocks... Are you having that problem with yours?

RE: rustler or xcellerator??
no there just very perticular with the rebuild process. they are very well made and designed, plus very cheap.

RE: rustler or xcellerator??
What WT oil are you using...

RE: rustler or xcellerator??
it says all in the link, its 30 with the standard traxxas 2 hole pistons in the back.

RE: rustler or xcellerator??
Ok, but that seems a little light. I'm using 100 WT in the rear and 50 Wt up front.

RE: rustler or xcellerator??
My nitro rusty is my number one bashing nitro r/c even over my dynamite mach .26 t-maxx. The engine is awesome and I never had a problem with even one engine with the 5 years I've been bashing with the trx 2.5 and they all lasted atleast 5 gallons which is respectable. The engine has awesome power for an RTR and has no problem flipping the rustler over backwards on any surface as long as you have the right tires. The truck is very tough and if you do break an a-arm... get some aluminum ones. I jumped my rustler 10+ ft off of some of my BMX jumps and landed dead on them with no broken or bent parts. Also there is nothing wrong with the stock shocks, they aren't the best but I never broke or bent one and never had a problem with oil leaking. Just replace the crappy stock drive shafts to MIP CVDs and you'll love it. Also theres no better truck in snow as long as you wrap the cooling head with aluminum foil and waterproof the servos and reciever (like you would with any truck)... highest ground clearance of any ST and with some paddle tires the trx 2.5 throws slow 6ft high and 20ft back. Traxxas also has the best customer support there is if you do need help.
If you plan on running track I sujest the XTM though because the rustler is the worst track truck you can possibly have. |
RE: rustler or xcellerator??
hey, today i squoze an os max .18 cr-v in to my 5+ year old .15pro rustler .on my 5th tank at break-in's end. i can not pull the throttle wide open, from dead start, truck flips on back. from 15 mph the thing will ride 150ft= Willie.funny how i spend lots on carbon fiber top deck, shock towers,ect.....,then need to ad weight to drive this monster.believe it or not, this might be too much. .i was running os.12 but recoil broke, for the last time. think ill fix the .12,and put it back in rusty. probably fit the .18 in my revo. bought lots of extra parts for rusty. but after 2 gallons of nitro and accumulated close to 1/4 mile of hang time(big air) still have most parts new. it's a tank. ps. don't go out and buy an os .18 for your rustler, unless you have a dremmel, patients, and money for new tires.
