RE: WHAT SHOULD I GET????
the new one... i believe the g3.0 version
|
RE: WHAT SHOULD I GET????
i wanna get an MT2 but im worried about motors. How long does a motor last? Traxxas give u free motors if yours breaks
|
RE: WHAT SHOULD I GET????
never mind they give u half off on the new motors
|
RE: WHAT SHOULD I GET????
whats the newest firestorm?
|
RE: WHAT SHOULD I GET????
I would not get the Firestorm. My brother-in-law has one and even in low speed collisions, anytime he hits something, it breaks. He has spent more time fixing the truck than he has running it. I have an S-Maxx which is just a T-Maxx with 2 wheel drive and no reverse. The price is very reasonable from Hobby Town USA and the truck is ridiculously tough. It has a two speed tranny and the 2.5R motor. I have yet to break any parts on it and have already ran 2 1/2 gallons of fuel through the motor. Everybody is going to have their own opinion on what's best and what isn't. The thing you have to look for is what's best for you. Consider the price of the truck and if it looks like it will be easy for you to work on it. Eventually something is going to break no matter what truck you get and you want to get something you can fix easily.

RE: WHAT SHOULD I GET????
go for the MT2 if you are wanting something that is 4wd. it is a great truck and it is quiote fast too. as far as the best one the g3.0 is the newest one, but if you can find an 18ss it is better. the 18ss isn't made anymore but all the parts are interchangable and it comes with stronger parts. you should be able to find them on ebay. and the 18ss motor they come with is one of the best running smallblocks I have ever had.

RE: WHAT SHOULD I GET????
blunt force trama breaks any truck in the market just like it would any thing else that moves, (just buy anything on the market it doesn't matter among the bigger names) Probably the only person that stands half a chance in a crash is the disabled chairs because if they break then someone is getting sewed, But they still break if you hit a damn cement wall. Just like the guy said, if you want to keep running then go down and get what your LHS is selling. If they want to make money they will always have parts on hand. If you learn how to drive, just like you had to or will have to like a regular car or truck you will not have 98% of the problems a lot of these guys do or complain about. This is a Hobby to 95% of the people that are on this forum 4% are wanna be racers and 1% are racers. A hobby is something you work on constantly to make it better or in the RC industry just to keep it going most of the time. Honestly unless you have what it takes to be patient and learn how to drive any of the Hobby Trucks and Cars you will wind up in a years time spending at least 4 times what you bought it for plus the fuel. It just plain costs money if your foolish and think you can drive like AJ Foyt out the door. Relaxe learn and enjoy or beat the crap out of it and Pay :D example 2 years ago I took out one of those crummy XTM X-c trucks and put about 10 or 15 gallons of fuel threw it. The motor now needs to be replaced I put aluminum rear hubs on it because they wore out and a set of front arms on it from an idiot hitting me out on the pavement and one shock tower in the front.....................OOPs my bad. Thats $500 in fuel and $60.00 on parts for over 2 years. truck I use to screw around with a do wheelies and power turns on cement has taken $230.00 cost in parts, hours of repairs and the carb is leaking right now so it sits. Put it one the ground 3 months ago. Your in control of what happens to what ever RC you buy, don't let a bunch of whinners convince you that the Truck or car they like is better and stay close to help toll you know what your doing ;)

RE: WHAT SHOULD I GET????
ORIGINAL: CrysisFX you pretty much have the 2 best for bashing in your thread... those are the 2 most popular for a reason :p the jato would be 3rd but its not much of a basher. if you dont like the firestorm and want something more durable than a rustler, the MT2 is just as durable as the firestorm and a little faster. also most xtm cars are good but you may have problems with your LHS carrying parts. |

RE: WHAT SHOULD I GET????
Definitely agree with the 85% driver and 15% quality statement but one thing to keep in mind is replacement parts. No matter what truck you get you will break something. I would look at what your LHS carries the most parts for. With my LHS, they have about 8 racks of RC parts. Of these 8 I would say 5 are traxxas parts. The simple fact that I can go to my LHS and pick up a part in 5 minutes rather than having to order it off the net is one of the reasons I really like traxxas.

RE: WHAT SHOULD I GET????
i still dont cosider a jato a bashing vehicle. its more street oriented IMO.
anyways i also agree with the 85% driver statement. you will break it. i dont care if you buy a full aluminum car (which would actually break easier) a tree collision will break something. the only care ive ever crashed head on into a tree without major breakage was a savage and i still cracked the bumper. |
RE: WHAT SHOULD I GET????
Im new to nito rc but many of my friends have the jeto and other types of rc's.the firestorm is sick
And when I pulled it out of the box and put gas in it and broke it in. Man this thing is nice 1 pull start on the break in Im a newbie in rc's and this thing makes it easy for newbie to get in the game. All my buddy thowt I was stupid for getting it until I passed them all on the track. Now there all wunting to go get 1 and hop it up. I love this thing great for newbie! |
RE: WHAT SHOULD I GET????
Get a Team Losi GTX. Then all will be right with the world.
But, seriously. Get a GT2 or a Firestorm. Stay away from the cheap Chinese 1/8 cars, and I'm only going to say that once. It shouldn't need to be pounded into your head several times for you to get it. There is a reason a 4wd, big block 1/8 scale truggy costs more than a similarly equipped 2wd 1/10 small block truck...because there are MORE and BIGGER parts. Therefore, you should not buy a $300 RTR 1/8 car if you want something to bash around that's reliable. You'll be more than happy with a GT2 or Firestorm, because they're tough, cheap, and fast. Yes, I said fast...either of those trucks, if you've never driven a nitro RC car, will make you crap your pants. That's how fast they are. |
RE: WHAT SHOULD I GET????
ORIGINAL: yakfish If you like very breakable plastic gears in your tranny then get a Traxxas. If you like a solid drivetrain with metal gears go with HPI. I don't care how fast it goes or how powerfull it is, if you have a weak drivetrain you will be spending lots of time fixing it. I have owned alot of different nitro rc's from traxxas, hpi, associated, duratrax, ofna, ect. and I can't complain one bit about the quality of HPI products. I can't say the same for traxxas. There's my 2 cents. I totally agree . HPI has better material in their plastic that just seems to hold up the best . I heard years ago HPI uses something close to RPM`s material . |
RE: WHAT SHOULD I GET????
Well, the way it sounds everyone else that has a Nitro Firestorm doesn't have any problems out of them. Does anyone know if HPI has stated whether or not a bad batch of Nitro Firestorms was sent out? My bro-in-law's Firestorm is breaking parts left and right. Seems like anytime he runs it something cracks or breaks. It's top speed is okay due to the fact that it has a single speed tranny, if it had a two speed it would be really fast. It's not the easiest truck to work on and our LHS doesn't stock many parts for the truck, which should certainly be in consideration when purchasing a vehicle that will break something eventually. Of course if you use the 'net then you will always have access to many parts, but then you have to pay for shipping. But, the way gas prices are going, shipping may be cheaper than taking a trip to you LHS and the wealth of knowledge available on the 'net will help you find hop-up and stronger parts a lot easier. The LHS would rather sell what they have, so chances are they aren't going to tell you if there is something better available for your truck. And most of the time the better parts aren't much more expensive than the stock ones. Just get something you will be able to maintain easily and doesn't require the removal of 15 different parts just to get to the one you need. The more screws you have to remove, the higher the chances of stripping the screws and holes, and higher chances of screws getting loose and backing out. Then the next thing you know while driving you lose control of the truck due to a single screw disappearing and you wind up breaking way more parts. One tip I have is, when you first get the vehicle, take the suspension pieces apart and polish all the hinge pins and pivot balls. Just chuck them in a dremel tool and use a quality metal polish on them. It will keep corrosion at bay on the hinge pins and pivot balls and put less stress on the shocks and steering servo. Seems like a lot of work for a basher, but it will help in the long run and let's you learn the in's and out's of the truck parts that are most likely to break. That way you're truck's not sitting around for a week, when you could be back racing and bashing in a couple of minutes.

RE: WHAT SHOULD I GET????
there is a price gap between a truggy like a 8light t and a revo vs say a xxxnt rtr witch if you spend 18 on ebay you can have a rrp diff gear and 4 more you have a kevlar spur and it is a way better truck then a stormie, but this is do you get a 1/10 st or a truggy 1/8th 4wd .I have a xxxnt with carbin chasis aluminum bulckhead arms etc etc pivits ti turnbuckles all rrp gears it can run into a wall and mby a turnbuckle will bend ,but put it vs my revo platinum and it will get crushed bolth my trucks ar everry modded so i am talking about a stock 1/10 vs a stock 1/8 or revo witch is 1/10 but is the same size as a 8light t . a 1/10 st is just smaller and 2wd just the size makes a 8light or a revo much stronger .I sugest a revo off ebay you can get a verry clean 3.3 for 250 to 350 and it will last way better than a 1/10 st and for the guys saying traxxas are not strong i can only lol at that the only reson i have a revo is because of the abuse my buds put there revos threw and they dont break the way that the hubs are connected to the arms with ball ends they are built to crash my buddy hit a park bench at full speed and the hub poped out we poped it back in and it was good to go a stormie would have blown up in a mist like any other 1/10 st the revo just got up and ran agn .here are some pics so you can se the size of a 1/10 st and a revo platinum or any other truggy type truck.
in jail i think the xxxnt does not want to be in the same cell as the revo http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/a.../revoxxxnt.jpg http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/a...ntfinished.jpg http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/a...il/revotop.jpg |
