RE: glo plug prolems
it is possible to get a bad plug out of the package ...... try running a OS LC3

RE: glo plug prolems

any help here? |
RE: glo plug prolems
Sounds like it might be too lean. Try opening up the low speed needle 1/8th a turn and try it again. Also, is the glow plug element straight? It should look like a spring, if it's bent then it needs to be replaced.

RE: glo plug prolems
Is it shutting off while it is still idleing? Try going back to factory settings and start tuning from there again. If the plug is running fine in your Jato then it is a tuning issue with the motor.

RE: glo plug prolems
Your low speed needle may be a bit too lean. In New Hampshire and it's getting cooler as fall approaches and you're going to find you will need to run richer than you did in the warmer summer. Turn it open 1/2 turn more and see if this helps.
What is the condition of your fuel? Is it newer? Older fuel that was stored improperly can absorb moisture and may cause this problem. |
RE: glo plug prolems
copied and pasted from a website:
Now why does nitro engine stay running? Presuming your carburetor is tuned correctly. This is where science comes into play. There is heat generated in the combustion cycle. This heat is called "the catalytic reaction". A catalytic reaction occurs causing platinum to glow in the presence of "methyl-alcohol," or "methanol". This catalytic reaction will occur on it's own without any outside power source. All of this only comes onto play during low rpm and when there is not enough heat being generated to burn all the fuel vapor. The catalytic reaction changes as rpms and temperature rise. This has just been a very basic explanation of how a glow plug works at low rpm or idle. |
RE: glo plug prolems
I was having a similar problem and switched the glowplug for a warmer one. Seemed to do the trick.

RE: glo plug prolems
DO NOT get the OS plugs. Their taper is different and will ruin the head button. Say you got an engine without a glow plug, you could run an OS IF you never switch back. OS's also have a shorter body which means you won't get the right compression/performance with OS plugs.
